The University of Maine System is accepting applications for a Senior Network Architect. The Senior Network Architect, reporting to the Executive Director, fulfills the leadership, facilitation, analysis, and design roles required to develop the network architecture of UMS’ wide area network extending across all of Maine and New Hampshire and into Massachusetts and ensures its leverage across projects and initiatives of UMS and other Networkmaine collaborating agencies. The Network Architect will assist in 1) strategic planning, 2) budget optimization, 3) process participation and ownership, and 4) standards facilitations as part of operating a 5-nines reliable network.
In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Senior Network Architect will work with UMS and the other Networkmaine supported agencies to help achieve alignment of business strategies and technical capabilities. This role provides technical direction by aiding in the implementation of network infrastructure standards.
For the right candidate, we will consider a fully remote or hybrid work schedule. Office space on a University System campus location can also be provided, if desired.

Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range is $120,000-$140,000 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Required:
A bachelor’s degree in a technical field and ten years of relevant experience designing service provider network infrastructures, at scale, e.g., MPLS/Segment Routing, BGP, routing, switching, IPv4/6, EVPN. Additional years of experience can be substituted education in a non-technical field.
Preferred:
A master’s degree in the field of telecommunications or computer science and ten years of experience with designing service provider network infrastructures for a research and education network.
