Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit ITS Customer Experience & Engagement (CE&E) strives to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction through effective, reliable and professional IT support, in partnership with campus units. Among its functions, CE&E provides website, communications, digital accessibility, and voice services, and support from the Service Desk, including the Business Systems Help Desk.
Position Summary This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The ResNet Director plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation and security of the network infrastructure that supports UNC Housing. This position involves overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the network systems that facilitate internet access, digital communication, and various online resources essential for academic and personal use by the residents, as well as the Housing professional staff.
With a keen focus on user experience, the Director addresses technical issues, manages network upgrades, and incorporates new technologies to meet the evolving needs of students and staff. They work closely with central IT professionals, housing administrators, and external vendors to ensure the network’s reliability, speed, and security.
This position is a leadership role with dual reporting structure to Housing and ITS. The Director provides strategic vision and leadership related to technology in the department.
Key responsibilities include:
Manages 4 full-time employees and 50 student employees
Provides on-site residential support, oversees technology and technology support for the Housing Department. This includes 600 employees in the department spread across 50 buildings on campus.
Manages complex projects impacting over 8,500 individuals on campus. Coordinates with outside groups to complete these projects in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Oversees the operational budget. Provides budget forecasting.
Leads necessary procurement activities, including RFPs, contracts, risk assessments, and implementation planning.
Oversees complex IT systems and custom-coded applications in support of the Housing Department.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with technical staff and non-technical partners
Demonstrated ability to set priorities effectively and resolve competing demands
Knowledge of project and service management principles and practices
Strong customer service skills
Supervisory and/or leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience at a college or university
Knowledge of ITSM and ITIL best practices
Experience managing or leading teams to manage a large, diverse collection of devices
Extensive experience with technology planning and solution development
3+ years of management experience
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
