The University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries are seeking a collaborative, innovative, forward-thinking strategic leader to serve in the role of Associate Dean of Libraries for Information Technology and Administration.
The AD assumes the comprehensive coordination of enterprise library technology systems and services, and central administrative services including library acquisitions. Reporting directly to the Dean of Libraries, the AD leads the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of strategic directions and priorities pertaining to these library services and functions. In collaboration with senior library leadership, the AD participates in reimagining and realigning library services and organizational structures designed to meet the emerging needs of the campus and our partners across the Universities of Wisconsin system and the Big Ten Academic Alliance. The AD collaborates with library campus governance groups on campus-wide initiatives and partners with consortial organizations at regional, state, national, and international levels. These efforts ensure access to essential library services and programs while enhancing the reputation of campus libraries within the profession.
In terms of service portfolio, the AD directs the development, programming, operations, and assessment of several campus-wide library services including information technology and administrative services. Within the Information Technology division are IT systems and infrastructure services, library software development, end-user computing services, enterprise library systems management, cybersecurity, digital library preservation and repository services, coordinated resource discovery, and web services management and administration. Administrative services include library human resources, business and financial services, and library acquisitions. A key focus of this position will be sustaining and advancing technology innovation and the continuous improvement of administrative services in support of the Libraries' mission.
The AD has direct responsibility for approximately 50 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff working across these services. The AD leads efforts to coordinate the provision of a coherent staff and user experience across all technological and administrative systems and services on which the libraries and the campus community rely.
Qualifications:
A minimum of five years of relevant experience is strongly preferred, with at least two years in an academic library setting. This experience should include professional responsibilities demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of a research library's role in partnering and delivering services to advance research and scholarship.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to lead librarians, technologists, and/or administrative professionals engaged in delivering services in support of a major research library system.
- Demonstrated career progression in professional positions.
- Proven track record of effectively fostering partnerships and collaborations that leverage the diverse roles libraries can fulfill in addressing the changing needs of students, faculty, and staff.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Evidence of substantial professional engagement and contribution, demonstrating a keen awareness of emerging issues and trends influencing the campus technological and administrative ecosystem and the alignment of library services and programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record in professional roles, including strategic planning, budgeting, and policy development, and the ability to align resources to meet growing academic and/or administrative needs of a complex institution.
- Ability to align IT and administrative strategies with business goals to foster innovation.
- Proficiency in fiscal planning, budgeting and financial reporting, and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated success in implementing library technology at scale.
- Experience building and sustaining campus partnerships and collaborating with information technology and administrative professionals to integrate library services, technologies, and resources with enterprise solutions on campus and beyond.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to maintain a strong commitment to professional engagement and service, including presentations, publications, and service on campus-wide, regional, and/or national-level professional organization.
