Under the direction of a designated supervisor, manager, or director, incumbents assigned to this classification performs all aspects of functional application administration and technical application integration for assigned applications including enterprise resource planning (ERP). This position is responsible for performing the daily Database Administration duties for a large enterprise environment, including Ellucian/Banner and other enterprise software. This position works closely with the designated supervisor, manager or Director to coordinate and plan future upgrades and projects that will benefit the entire institution including identifying infrastructure and support service needs. Analyzes many systems for discrete and common elements and integrates these elements into an operable database architecture, which satisfies the needs of all systems. Additionally, incumbents maintain the integrity of the data for each system function. The incumbent in this position will also architect, develop, integrate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot applications delivered in a cloud environment. Pasadena City College (PCC) operates within a managed cloud environment and is planning a migration to SaaS.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Develop and manage integrations between the college's Enterprise System (Banner), portal, and both local and cloud-based third-party applications and systems including Ellucian Ethos Integration, Ellucian User Provisioning (EUP), Ellucian Ethos Identity (EEI), Ethos Identity Federation Service (EIFS) and other modern access management tools in addition to ensuring that Active Directory data is accurate and Single Sign-On to Banner system is operating normally.
Develops or validates deployment scripts for database software changes and deploys, databases and database changes in testing, training, preproduction, and production environments. Coordinates with cloud teams for deployment into non-production and production environments. Validates enterprise updates applied by cloud teams.
Coordinates with technical staff in multi-tiered technology environment to establish system operation procedures, change control procedures, capacity planning, systems documentation, and update plans.
Document integration processes and maintain records for compliance and auditing purposes.
Installs, configures, and manages web-based applications including the setup and configuration of Apache, Internet Information Services (IIS), Tomcat, PHP and the installation of SSL/TLS certificates.
Installs and configures enterprise software, including upgrades, patches, and third-party tools. Maintains enterprise application software and related software. Coordinates with cloud application support and campus partners when applicable to execute these tasks.
Participates in testing and debugging of enterprise software applications systems when escalated through established channels.
Selects or assists in the selection of enterprise software application systems including design, feasibility studies, cost estimates, impact analysis, data conversion functions, and reduction of redundant data.
Assists in the selection of new application systems by reviewing application requirements, specifications, configuration, and deployment plans for performance, maintainability, scalability, operations impact, and conformance to architectural standards.
Analyzes query plans and monitors database system performance to identify and address performance problems and analyzes code written by developers to assess impact on the enterprise application systems and application performance.
Monitors and maintains third-party application design and implementation, including data structures.
Monitors data quality, data integrity, and database availability.
Assists staff in resolving operations problems found in applications programs as it relates to enterprise software applications.
Monitoring and optimizing system performance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university in business, computer science, management information technology or a related field.
Five years of hands-on experience with enterprise applications, web application servers, serverless multi-tier and n-tier systems architecture administration in a large-scale data-computing environment.
Two years of which must include planning, designing, implementing, and administering server-based, scalable databases, in a Cloud or SaaS environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Understanding the principles and methods of database design, development, and integration, including proficiency in database languages such as SQL.
Ability to apply techniques of data systems analysis, design, and programming effectively.
Skill in implementing, configuring, customizing, and integrating software solutions using APIs and managing source/version control systems such as git.
Ability to follow customer service protocols with a priority on providing excellent service, including effective communication in a multi-cultural environment.
Knowledge of Oracle DBMS, Postgres, Ellucian Ethos Integration, Ellucian Ethos Identity, Ellucian User Provisioning, Ethos Identity Federation Service (EIFS), and other modern access management tools.
