Under direction, performs highly complex duties in the design, development, installation, upgrade, integration, administration and maintenance of the District's wired and wireless campus, data center, wide area and cloud network infrastructure; monitors network performance and stability; designs, installs, manages and monitors network firewalls, appliances, protocols and processes; manages and monitors the unified communication (UC) platform; serves as a technical lead on difficult and complex network, communication and configuration issues; and performs related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Designs, develops, and manages the district's large, complex network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, load balancers, and data cabling.
Installs, configures, and maintains Unified Communication (UC) platform and related infrastructure, including PoE switches, voice routers, handsets, and video endpoints. Optimizes voice and video services for quality and reliability.
Troubleshoots server connectivity and performance issues, analyzes network traffic, and manages network conditions for optimal performance and uptime.
Installs, upgrades, configures, integrates, and maintains network equipment and software. Conducts site surveys for optimal wireless coverage, configures SSIDs and encryption methods, troubleshoots wireless issues, and manages network policy servers.
Administers network security systems, including firewalls, web application firewalls, DNS security, and access control systems. Maintains firewall policies, enforces security policies, and ensures compliance with remote access standards.
Manages cloud-hosted network infrastructure, including VPCs, gateways, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers. Monitors and troubleshoots cloud network for performance and availability.
Oversees data center network infrastructure, including switches, fabric architectures, and hyper-converged server networks. Ensures high performance and availability through monitoring and troubleshooting.
Configures WAN and internet connectivity, including managed circuits, and tunnels. Implements high availability technologies for optimal traffic routing and redundancy.
Recommends network upgrades and expansions based on capacity and growth requirements. Leads network installation projects, migration, and conversion projects.
Provides technical support and training to user support staff, develops tools for software deployment and troubleshooting, and performs advanced network troubleshooting.
Develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans for network infrastructure. Maintains detailed documentation, network diagrams, and cabling drawings.
Manages emergency message broadcasting systems and troubleshoots IoT device connectivity.
Installs structured cabling for various systems and organizes meetings and trainings related to the network infrastructure.
Monitors contractor work to ensure compliance with standards. Installs and maintains campus safety systems, including security cameras, card readers, and emergency phones.
Provides leadership to staff and performs other assigned duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems or related field
Five years of progressively responsible experience in the analysis, design and management of network infrastructure in an enterprise environment
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certificate or equivalent
OR Equivalent combination of training, certifications and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Amazon Web Services Solutions Architect Associate certificate or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE:
Expertise in Wide Area Network, internet, data center, and cloud network architecture and design best practices.
Comprehensive knowledge of networking protocols, network monitoring tools and wireless surveys.
Proficiency in wireless concepts wireless topologies, controller/access point architecture, and authentication/encryption standards.
Familiarity with high availability and fault tolerance technologies
Knowledgeable in rack cabinet cable organization, copper/fiber optic cabling standards, and data center power distribution equipment.
Understanding of voice telephone technology/protocols, dial plans and hunt/paging groups.
Experience in building virtual private clouds with subnets, route tables, security groups, cloud firewalls, transit gateways.
Knowledgeable in procurement/installation compliance with District network standards/specifications.
SKILLS:
Skilled in configuring/installing network devices, security appliances, firewalls, and telephone systems.
Capable of implementing network monitoring tools for uptime, bandwidth, latency, and jitter analysis.
ABILITIES:
Ability to use common hand tools/equipment for installation tasks and proficiency in general office software/equipment.
Proficient in cabling installation, termination, and maintenance according to industry standards.
Effective communication, presentation, and troubleshooting skills for complex network problems.
Ability to apply security principles to network infrastructure and oversee contractor/vendor work.
