Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks an experienced professional to serve in this important role. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for the management of the College’s information technology (IT), communication, and computer systems. The CIO is directly responsible for the development of IT strategy and continuous assessment of IT systems and operations against current documented industry best practices. The CIO is responsible for the oversight and management of an integrated team of employees and contractors who provide IT services, including, the development and maintenance of the institution’s enterprise applications environment, overall systems operation and support, the IT security function, network administration, instructional technology support, help desk services, telecommunications, and printing. The College seeks a CIO who enjoys a hands-on role in both daily service delivery and preparing to meet future needs. The IT department maintains a $2M budget, and a staff of 12 positions augmented by a series of contracted support services. The CIO holds a highly interactive role across all College departments and functions, working with executive leadership, faculty, staff, and students to ensure effective service delivery, identify opportunities for service improvement, and support College goals and objectives. The CIO reports to the Associate Vice President of Administration.
Responsibilities:
Develop the IT strategy and vision within a structure that ensures secure functionality, high availability, efficiency, and flexibility for the College, informed by industry best practices; develop short- and long- range goals.
Supervise IT staff positions and oversee contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure responsive and reliable IT services.
Establish and implement systems, protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance, gain operational efficiency, increase productivity, and provide a quality user experience.
Direct, maintain, and execute ongoing efforts to lead continuous improvement of IT infrastructure and operations.
Consult with stakeholders across the College to identify business requirements and technology needs.
Lead the College’s Information Security Program.
Understand and address external requirements for IT functionality and controls; manage IT system audits and reviews.
Develop and manage the IT budget and resources.
Analyze, recommend, and implement solutions to develop, integrate, manage, maintain, and support the BCOM IT infrastructure, security and related databases.
Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new IT software projects and initiatives to support and enhance existing infrastructure.
Identify opportunities that can improve the efficiency of business processes.
Serve as a liaison and facilitator between all business units to assist in addressing and resolving IT support issues.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, managing and supporting IT operations.
A combination of education and related experience will be considered.
Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.
Technical experience with IT security, systems networking, databases, web development, and user support; personal expertise in IT security or the management of academic infrastructure is preferred.
Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures, and guidelines to support operational processes.
Experience in the management of IT functions, effectively communicating across the organization, and delivery of excellent customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure, including the development of IT systems and planning IT implementation initiatives.
Superior organizational and leadership skills.
Strong project management skills with effective results focused within an information systems environment.
Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting, and business operations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivation and ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
Ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment, in a high-pressure on-call environment with changing priorities.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
