Where policy is established, the DGM drives coordination by establishing processes for how Stewards execute their activities (the specific work steps, tools used, etc.); how they communicate their actions to their peer stewards and other business users/roles; and upward to the data & analytics governance board. The DGM helps the stewards and business users to interpret policies established by the board with the goal of establishing clarity and quality in policy enactment.
Primary duties include:
Collaborate with data & analytics governance board members: Composed primarily of data trustees, the DGM will work with the board to develop, receive and understand policy directives. They will provide input on policy creation within their scope, primarily advising on the viability of enacting policies.
Consolidated program reporting: Monitor data quality and fidelity within their defined domains and track business outcomes. Provide transparent reporting for Stewards, Governance Board, and other leaders and community members.
Collaborate with Steward Community: DGM will assist data stewards in interpreting policy requirements and mentor them in a range of stewardship activities. The DGM will serve as the connector (team-builder) across stewardship domains within their scope.
Stewardship: May hold responsibilities as a normal steward within particular domains.
Continuous Learning: DGM must learn and advise the organization on data governance implementation best practices across higher education through industry research and participation in professional communities.
Data Governance Tool: The Mizzou DGM will serve as a subject matter expert in partnership with IT, the BI Tools Manager and the Data Governance Tool Administrator to design and implement a tool to support systemwide data governance.
