The STEM Librarian joins a team of instruction librarians charged with facilitating information literacy learning at Trinity University. This librarian will support undergraduate student learning and research in the STEM disciplines through collaboration with STEM faculty and staff. Essential functions of this position include teaching in a variety of formats, providing customized reference service for individuals and groups, outreach and relationship-building, collection development, and participation in library resource evaluation. This librarian will have the opportunity to shape the library’s involvement in specialized support areas relevant to STEM fields, including but not limited to data literacy, scholarly communications and open access, data management services, undergraduate research, and campus-based initiatives to make STEM education more accessible and equitable.
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position with faculty rank. Trinity faculty librarians are expected to meet the library-defined standards of librarianship, scholarship or professional achievement, and service for promotion and tenure. Progress toward tenure will be reviewed through alternating formal and informal reviews by tenured library faculty. Professional work will be reviewed annually and evaluated by the Head of Instruction Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
When librarians are evaluated during formal reviews, all relevant areas of librarianship will be considered. However, certain areas which are core to a particular position will receive the greatest weight. The core responsibilities for this position follow.
Instruction. Support student information literacy learning by teaching in traditional classroom, online and blended learning environments, using active and inclusive teaching and learning methods. Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to advance and shape information literacy education efforts.
Learning Support. Use educational technologies and instructional design principles to prepare and produce online materials, such as subject guides, tutorials, videos, and LMS modules.
Reference. Provide customized reference service and research support for individuals and small groups via in person and virtual appointments, email, and phone.
Outreach and Liaison Work. Take a proactive approach to building relationships with faculty, staff, and students in STEM disciplines in order to understand and meet their information and library needs. Communicate and collaborate across library units to represent the perspectives of STEM faculty, staff, and students in shaping and delivering campus library services.
Assessment. Conduct individual and collaborative assessment of student learning for various types of information literacy instruction in STEM areas. Participate in collaborative assessment efforts within the library’s instructional team.
Collection Development. Identify and select subject-specific science information resources to support STEM student and faculty information needs. Collaborate with other library units, such as Resource Management, on larger collection development projects such as the evaluation of journal packages, databases, and other collection management activities.
Individual Interest. Select and engage in a specialized area of academic librarianship relevant to STEM disciplines. Possible topics include but are not limited to data literacy, scholarly communications and open access, open science and open data, data management services, and inclusion and accessibility-focused STEM education initiatives.?

EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
Academic background or work experience with the subject matter, tools and methods of one or more STEM fields
One year of teaching experience
One year of experience working in a higher education setting
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Required:
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to teach information literacy skills and concepts
Preferred:
Strong ability to work independently and desire to collaborate with others
Knowledge of scientific information and data resources
Experience in one-on-one assistance and conducting outreach for individuals/groups
Knowledge of a variety of strategies (pedagogical, technological, etc.) to enhance student learning
