The VDI Administrator is responsible for maintaining the virtual desktop infrastructure at the system office as well as related cloud elements in an enterprise environment. This infrastructure includes VMWare Horizon, DEM, application volumes and Workspace One. The environment is maintained to provide service for virtual desktop pools to the member institutions of the Alabama Community College System.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Manage and maintain a Virtual Desktop environment for ACCS and its member institutions.
Work to transform end user computing to a VDI environment to aid in the access of applications, standardization of the user experience and ease of managing the end user devices. Assist each institution in utilizing the VDI environment with their needs in mind.
Maintain VDI pools including upgrades, application deployment, profile management and end user support.
Work with member institutions to address the desktop needs of students, faculty, and staff. Understand the business impact of virtualization and advise these institutions how best to apply strategies to drive down costs and simplify tasks to the end user. Actively seek out opportunities to improve existing practices, procedures, and processes.
Provide VDI technology leadership on assigned projects and facilitate adoption of the technology. Coordinate with the IT staff at the schools, contract VDI resources and lead VDI resources at the System Office.
Design and deploy desktop pools that standardize operating systems and applications for typical desktops and NVIDIA vGPU powered solutions.
Design and implement VMWare Horizon services including Horizon Connection Server, Horizon Agent, Client, AppVolumes, DEM, VDI pools, golden image design, and Avi load balancers.
Insure the entire VDI infrastructure’s availability, performance, scalability, security, and backup. Work with the office network, systems, security and enterprise application teams to accomplish the goals of the system office. Work with the ACCS colleges to support their IT goals.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Develop requirements outlines, budgets, and schedules of replacement of VDI Infrastructure.
Designing maintenance procedures and documentation for the VDI environment.
Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology from a regionally accredited institution AND four (4) years of directly related experience OR ten (10) years of directly related experience.
Minimum of four (4) years of related experience, including installation and maintenance of a VMware virtualized environment.
Knowledge of computer hardware installation, maintenance, and management.
Ability to communicate effectively.
PREFERRED:
1. Certification in VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
