Ensure the satisfactory operation of the university's data networks to ensure a reliable and secure computing environment for the Clark community. This includes planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of the networks and associated infrastructure.
Major Responsibilities:
Identify, research, recommend, and implement network improvements, upgrades, and repairs for the University's network infrastructure including physical cabling (copper & fiber) and associated hardware & software. Evaluate new techniques and tools for improving services, staying abreast of industry trends and best-practices.
Provide hands-on support, maintenance, performance monitoring, and optimization of all LAN/WAN/WLAN including physical data cable (copper and fiber), wireless, cloud networking, and other associated equipment and services.
Design, install and manage network devices including but not limited to switches, routers, firewalls, packet shapers, UPSs, PDUs, network monitoring systems, and WiFi infrastructure.
Monitor all aspects of Clark's network and proactively respond to and investigate alerts and anomalies.
Provide network integration of voice/video/data systems including VoIP, classroom AV, endpoints, HVAC equipment, card access control, security cameras, point of sale systems, vending machines, servers, and other applications.
Participate in design, maintenance, and support of a hybrid telecommunications environment with traditional digital PBX, Teams Direct Routing, session border controllers, and endpoints.
Implement and maintain centralized automation and orchestration for management of network devices and services.
Documentation of networking infrastructure in enterprise documentation systems.
Participate in network security assessments and remediation in coordination with supervisor and Information Security team.
Manage and maintain AAA for network access.
Manage and maintain DHCP services.
Provide input on DR configuration/installation and maintenance.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; significant experience can substitute for degree.
Minimum of five years' experience in networking, with progressive growth in responsibilities and project management.
Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP networks with experience in networking including routers, switches, VLANs, trunking, VPNs, copper and fiber Ethernet, wireless networks, firewall architecture, and bandwidth management.
Firm understanding of TCP/IP and related networking protocols (DNS, HTTP, ICMP, DHCP, etc) as well as how they operate and are managed on an enterprise level production network
A fundamental understanding of network security including system hardening, log analysis, intrusion detection, and vulnerability scanning.
Familiarity with VoIP concepts and practical deployment through a network environment
Ability to follow projects as a contributor and prioritize multiple complex projects.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; to set priorities and work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects; to communicate progress/problems to appropriate personnel effectively.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of computer literacy; and the ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all levels of the university.
Excellent customer service and communication (written and verbal) skills; and a high degree of integrity relative to computer security and confidentiality of information.
Ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis (e.g., respond to system emergencies or to implement off-hour changes).
Ability to use and climb ladders, move equipment up to 50lbs (push, pull and lift), use hand tools, use power tools, reach overhead, stoop, crouch, crawl, kneel/squat, balance, twist, and bend.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment and in close quarters.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with HPE, Aruba, and Palo Alto networking products.
Experience with datacenter networking, systems automation and orchestration, cloud network environments, and software-defined networking.
Experience managing AVAYA phone system installation, upgrades, and maintenance.
Scripting experience in a multi-platform environment including Linux/UNIX, Windows, Mac operating systems, and other general scripting.
