The Director of Infrastructure Operations leads planning, development, deployment, and maintenance of mission critical technology infrastructure resources and is responsible for a talented team of Digital Infrastructure (network and systems), ID Card Office, and Telephony personnel.
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership and Development
· Cultivate a culture of innovation, focusing on excellent user experience, facilitating teaching and learning, and anticipating evolving institutional needs for academic and musical excellence.
· Develop a consistent practice of professional development for all staff, ensuring that each member of the team continues to grow professionally in all aspects of their development.
· Guide the modernization and growth of technological infrastructure, balancing performance, reliability, cost, and flexibility.
· Collaborate with the CITO and the CIT Leadership Team to develop and implement initiatives to help CIT achieve diversity objectives.
· Represent Oberlin in technology committees and professional organizations.
Operational Excellence
· Ensure that Oberlin’s technological infrastructure is routinely reliable and of exemplary quality, cultivating a practice of continual improvement and objective assessment.
· Develop, track, and publish robust accountability metrics on performance and operational excellence.
· Remain current with emerging technologies, assessing the potential and significance of innovations, integrating that work into operational and architectural planning.
· Promote the integration of best practices and technology standards across the division.
· Establish and maintain operational plans and/or service level agreements with academic, administrative and research units as appropriate, ensuring a high level of service quality.
· Lead the development and implementation of information technology strategies related to business continuity and disaster recovery.
· In collaboration with others, develop a program to enhance organizational capacity.
IT Security, Policy and Compliance
· Enact, assess, and maintain security architectures as defined by the Director of Security Architecture
· Collaboratively implement and maintain elements of a robust IT security program, ensuring layered security and compliance with relevant security requirements.
· Collaboratively ensure compliance with relevant local/state/federal regulations.
· Collaboratively maintain compliance with insurance requirements.
· Ensure the functional and operational security of all infrastructure services.
· Participate in data governance activities.
· Collaboratively identify, develop, and enact IT policies and procedures, documenting, systematizing, and communicating about IT services.
Strategic Planning and Budget Management
· Oversee the development of multi-year budget projections and analyses, coordinating these with others as needed.
· Facilitate the development of financial models related to routine equipment replacement and maintenance. Lead the prioritization of infrastructure projects.
· Oversee the creation, validation, and execution of project plans, garnering necessary institutional support for initiatives and proposals.
· Oversee the development and execution of multi-year strategic plans, aligning Infrastructure Operations priorities and plans with divisional and institutional strategic plans and priorities.
· In collaboration with the Director of Service Delivery and Security Architecture, oversee the development and implementation of information technology strategies related to disaster recovery and business continuity.
· Collaborate with the CIT Leadership Team to develop and execute a long-term strategy for the College’s overall technological environment, ensuring that the institution’s diverse technological needs are anticipated and met in a deliberate, graceful and sustainable manner.
Project Management
· Ensure the holistic success of multiple critical initiatives, integrating technical, budgetary, cultural, and organizational factors into successful outcomes.
· Leading by example, develop project management and change management skills in others.
· Provide regular and comprehensive status updates to the CITO and senior leadership team members.
· Assist with the development and implementation of project dashboards, keeping leadership up to date on the status of key efforts.
