The University of Pittsburgh’s University Center for Teaching and Learning (the Teaching Center; UCTL) is seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about teaching and learning to partner with our faculty as a professional Teaching and Learning Consultant. At a minimum, the job requires a unique combination of skills in faculty development, instructional design, instructional technology and online learning. The Teaching Consultant will work closely with faculty, instructors, graduate students, colleagues at the Teaching Center and other stakeholders to develop programming and professional development activities, materials, resources, and processes that support effective, engaging, and innovative teaching practices for the face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments at the University of Pittsbrugh. The primary job duties of a Teaching Consultant are highly varied. The work tends to center around the themes of improving teaching and learning outcomes across the institution. This happens through a variety of projects, programs, and offerings including but not limited to consultations, classrooms observations, teaching evaluation analysis, workshops, needs analysis, instructional technology, communication, project management, facilitation, research, assessment, and event management. Specific task include: • Consulting with faculty and instructors • Designing face-to-face, online and hybrid instructional materials • Managing instructional design projects • Researching and preparing written materials and resources for online publication • Collaborating with instructional technologists • Conducting formative evaluations and observations • Delivering workshops and training opportunities on teaching methods and/or effective use of educational technology A minimum of five years of experience working in higher education, ideally in the field of faculty development, instructional design, curriculum design, education, or a related area. Other job requirements include: • Deep knowledge, understanding, and demonstrated application of the scholarship of teaching and learning as it relates to teaching, pedagogy and instructional design • Experience with a learning management system (such as Canvas). • Experience using and applying educational technology in higher education • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills • Highly positive outlook and the ability to work with diverse groups, often with competing goals and interests • Experience in facilitation, communication techniques and conflict resolution • Experience researching and writing across wide areas and approaches to teaching, learning and pedagogy • Expertise with MS Office Suite • Comfortable working independently, while remaining in communication with team members and supervisor • Strong attention to detail and timeliness • Project management experience, including the ability to identify goals, develop timelines, plans, milestones and to track progress and provide updates |
