Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The department of Information Technology & Telecommunications Services’ mission is to provide technology services to academic and administrative units. The services include day-to-day technology support to faculty, staff and students, management and maintenance of academic computer labs, deployment of classroom technologies, implementation, and maintenance of administrative software & hardware systems, campus-wide network and internet provision, and distance learning technologies. Primary Purpose of the Position: This position supports the Edge and Core Networking systems to design, build, and operate Fayetteville State University’s enterprise and departmental networks, while providing advanced technical expertise and troubleshooting for departmental customers. Develop, deploy, operate, and secure network systems and processes. Duties and Responsibilities: University Network Operations: Independently design, build, secure and operate networks for university unit networks. Coordinate with staff and faculty to evaluate network needs and design cost-effective solutions to meet business requirements within campus network standards. Establish and maintain good working relationships with customer representatives. Participate in technical and execution planning groups to establish scope, timeline, documentation and task breakdown for projects. Operational Protection: Participate in Edge and Core Networking 24×7 on-call rotation and after-hours escalation process to meet organizational Service Level Agreements. Operate and maintain tools, content, and respond to events at the university. Responsible for networking monitoring tool (Solarwinds, Cisco Prime, ISE, Cisco Umbrella, etc) implementation, maintenance, tuning and configuration to meet ITTS reporting needs to meet or exceed requirements and standards. Data Center Operations: Independently utilizes domain knowledge to operate and improve University Data Center (UDC) network operations and customer support. Coordinate with UDC customers to evaluate network needs and design cost-effective solutions to meet business requirements while adhering to campus network standards. On-going UDC operational activities such as: installations, repairs, troubleshooting and maintaining network equipment. Operations Standards Enforcement and Continuous Improvement: Responsible for enforcement and collaboration of network standards, operational policy and on-going procedures. Responsible for life cycle management of standard operation procedures and organizational standards documentation. Collaborates with Network and Systems teams for improvement of procedures and standards to improve the reliability, scalability, performance, and security of the university’s network. |
