This position is responsible for the strategic planning and oversight of SMU’s enterprise storage, Linux enterprise systems delivery, departmental Linux services delivery, High Performance Computing Support Services for SMU Research Community and University Data Center Management. This position provides leadership, management, coaching, and technical expertise for the Systems Services Team. Other duties include planning, technical architecture design and communication/coordination with various groups across campus. The position is required to research, recommend, and prepare forecasts for hardware and software expenditures, and leads in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and policies. Additionally, the Assistant Director participates in the university-wide IT disaster recovery and business continuity planning along with other relevant responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
Provide leadership and management of the Systems Services team to envision future directions and goals; make effective and efficient use of resources; set high achievable aspiration for services and operations. Develop tactical and strategic directions for campus-wide services delivered by the team.
Ensure the provision of comprehensive, high quality enterprise Storage Services across all university systems.
Ensure the delivery of comprehensive enterprise Linux Services to meet the needs of campus.
Ensure the provisioning and management of quality Linux Desktop Services to meet Faculty requirements.
Develop, maintenance and enhance University Data Center Methods of Procedure and Operations Manual to realize a high level of operational readiness at all times. Collaborate with SMU Facilities and manage third party vendors to ensure the Data Center MEP components are well maintained.
Hire, train, and supervise staff and ensure staff is empowered to exercise initiative and work creatively, participate productively in inter-departmental teams, engage in professional development activities, and collaborate well with the SMU community. Provide technical leadership, consultation and mentoring to the staff.
Change management and project management that leverage excellent communication and collaboration. The ability to influence others is necessary.
Manage Vendors, research emergency technology, evaluate hardware & software and prepare departmental forecast of expenses as input to the budget cycle. Review and approve payments to vendors.
Participate in and exchange information with other Universities to stay abreast of trends affecting areas of responsibility.
Other task and projects as required.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree is required; A Master's degree in preferred. Degree in technology, engineering, business or related field is desired.
A minimum of 10 years of work experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate must have broad knowledge of software and hardware technologies, operating systems, process low, and management of production operations. Candidate with work experience and knowledge of Linux or Windows Systems Administration is required. Also, experience with enterprise NAS, Fiber Channel and/or Parallel File storage systems is required.
Candidate must posses strong planning and project management skills to direct team of engineers to deliver high quality enterprose services across multiple disciplines. Attention to detali is a must. Candidate must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Deadline to Apply:
