The Software Engineer maintains and enhances existing mainframe applications developed primarily in CA-Ideal and COBOL. The Software Engineer will also work designing new integrations with external and vended applications. The position is hands-on, agile, team-based development.
The Software Engineer is responsible for:
Coding software applications within a development team.
Following a formal development methodology and working within scheduled timelines.
Participating in peer code reviews, documentation, and formal testing.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience;
Experience with mainframe application system development and maintenance. This must include the creation of both new online CICS and batch applications using a relational database.
Experience with mainframe COBOL, Natural, or Ideal software language skills.
Experience with z/OS JCL coding.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, paired with ability to express complex technical concepts effectively.
Experience using standard TSOISPF utilities.
Relational database skills including SQL.
Familiarity with a mainframe source code managements system like Librarian, output management systems like Dispatch, and batch scheduling systems like CA-Scheduler.

Physical demands: Sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus.
