BlackBoard Support Administrator (Instructional Designer II)
The Instructional Designer II provides assistance in one or all areas of instructional applications that includes testing, design and analysis.. Assists in the formulation of procedures and best practices for users of applications. Designs training programs, including classroom lectures, online courses, and one-on-one sessions directed at faculty and staff, or those who use the university’s technology services. Helps faculty employ the use of instructional technology and serves as an instructional technology expert. Provides subject matter expertise in support of the applications team responsible for instructional technology systems and applications, including the learning management system.

Support the Learning Management System (LMS) environment
Provide administration and support for the learning management system and other instructional applications.
Respond to LMS or other instructional technology issues in a timely manner, providing high-quality answers or resolutions; troubleshoot reported issues and work with application administrators to identify root causes and remedies.
Process assigned service request tickets according to established procedures, meeting SLAs / performance goals.
Assist departments and schools in deploying LMS courses developed by faculty members.
Maintain a current knowledge of the learning management system and its
enhancements, and related software and technologies; research and recommend improvements in existing LMS and other instructional technologies and practices; assist in adapting the LMS and its related technologies to meet the growing needs of instructional design and online learning.
LMS administration, integration, maintenance and management
Perform routine and periodic administration and maintenance tasks for the LMS and other instructional technologies, adhering to established change control procedures.
Develop and deploy standard operating procedures for maintenance and management, and for applying upgrades, patches, releases of LMS and related instructional technologies.
Identify and research patches/fixes for supported systems. Work closely with application administrators to design and develop LMS interfaces; create and implement testing scripts for major releases, patches, and building block upgrades.
Lead application upgrade projects; test, validate and ensure all current and new functionality is tested and released for use by campus community
Define and develop appropriate metrics to measure performance and ensure metrics are collected, reported and reviewed regularly.
Perform quality control, assurance and testing on systems.
Working closely with the application administrator, develop, maintain and report results of monitoring scripts to measure identified quality metrics and alert appropriately to any exceptions.
Review new products and services to enhance the overall service management of the application services environment.
Training and Communication
Provide orientation regarding the installed technical tools for faculty, staff and students; conduct in-service training programs for faculty and staff including workshops, demonstrations and one-on-one instruction; provide documentation on university-specific uses of technologies.
Serve as an instructional technology resource for faculty, staff and students as it pertains to the specific area of instruction; assist faculty with training and recommendations for integrating technology into the curriculum.
Communicate with functional users on system development activities.
Communicate internally within the team, group and division on upcoming needs, enhancements, projects issues and concerns. Follow up using established communication procedures so that the campus community is keep in the loop.
Work as part of the instructional technologies team to carry out assignments within the framework established by the supervisor and in conformance with established practices and procedures; bring unexpected or controversial findings to the supervisor’s attention.
Be a team player and champion to peers and customers.
Lead projects and implementations as assigned.
Work closely with managed services providers, vendors and contractors.
Share knowledge and experience to develop a culture of collaboration and sharing.
Participate in developing frameworks for documentation standards, and mentor peers and team members to adopt culture of keeping documentation up-to-date.
Interface with application administrators to provide robust and reliable service to our community
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Bachelor’s Degree with
At least 3 years’ experience as an Instructional Technology Specialist or Curriculum Designer.
At least 2 years’ experience in higher education or similar experience in secondary education.
At least 2 years’ experience in administration of educational systems (LMS, SIS, CMS).
Administration of educational systems (LMS, SIS, CMS).
Developing and imparting training on LMS tools and technologies
Developing usage metrics using reporting tools
Maintaining and managing LMS and its interfaces with SIS
And one or both of the following:
Experience with a learning management system - BlackBoard or similar
Experience installing and configuring COTS applications in a multi-tier environment.
Project planning and project management experience.
Higher Education experience.
