The Academic Computing and Communications Center is seeking an ACERDatabase Specialist.
Under minimal supervision this position will work closely with important campus research stakeholders such as UI Cancer Center, and Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences to help evaluate their research datawarehousing needs and to develop new solutions and/or optimize existing databases process and infrastructures that allow them to advance their mission. This position will also directly collaborate with researchers to deploy latest technology, reliable and scalable data driven solutions to securely advance research in all areas, including bioinformatics, cancer informatics, clinical and translational informatics and machine learning. Works closely with the Director of ACER to build strong relationships with our users and communicate their needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:
Support Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and possibly other database management systems on multiple hardware platforms supporting a variety of distributed applications. Assist developers with efficient SQL design and tuning; establish and enforce database security and standards; implement archive/purge strategies.
Work with project teams to develop, deploy, and maintain database applications in online transactional systems, operational data stores and data warehousing environments.
Ensure database backups and business continuity procedures are in place; monitor the health and performance of the databases.
Perform routine maintenance and database upgrades to ensure consistently high performance, quality, and reliability of our databases; Support data conversion and migration tasks; Troubleshoot DBMS issues.
Participate in the on-call rotation and weekend maintenance windows; Research, evaluate, recommend, implement and integrate new technologies, tools and strategies into the management and support of enterprise database management systems.
Formally and informally provide training and education to clients on the appropriate methods, techniques and strategies with which to perform interaction with enterprise database management systems; Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
2. A minimum of 5 years professional experience in Database Design / Administration which includes; demonstrated experience in the design, creation and implementation of databases, including data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas, validation checks and data security.
3. Demonstrated knowledge with Oracle 11, g or higher on UNIX/LINUX, or MS SQL Server 2016/2014/2012
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the UNIX/LINUX operating system, shell scripting and utilities.
