This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, forward-thinking leader to oversee and manage support for Banner and other applications used throughout the university. Support services include installation, configuration, hosting, troubleshooting, technical testing, updates, and integration. The Director of EAS provides technical leadership, planning, and guidance for the implementation or upgrade of applications, and the design and development of new applications or interfaces. The Director focuses on oversight and service to university clients including second- and third-level support for staff members who are the principal subject-matter experts for enterprise applications.
This position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Information Technology and Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO).
Enterprise Applications Management:
Provides leadership, vision, and direction for the university’s application software systems and ensures that they provide efficient and effective support of operations and decision-making.
Works with other leaders to identify needs, assess alternatives, and plan, implement, and support solutions.
Monitors the performance of applications, ensures timely updates, works with ITS leadership to manage the applications portfolio, and advises clients on new software technologies and directions.
Maintains an upgrade and maintenance calendar and works with clients to plan and coordinate these events within functional office schedules.
Works with clients and other ITS leaders to identify and resolve access and performance issues.
Application Maintenance, Support, and Development:
Manages, guides, and directly supports software maintenance, support, and development processes. This includes the installation and configuration of applications, the development, documentation, and monitoring of support and troubleshooting procedures, and the planning of major upgrades and patches. It also includes the analysis, design, development, testing, and support of custom applications. This position manages change control processes for applications and oversees the testing and promotion of upgrades into production environments.
Provides support for enterprise level solutions such as Ellucian Banner and Banner Document Management and provides support for departmental applications as resources allow.
Process Analysis and Design:
Provides technical support for and may lead process analysis and design efforts to ensure that processes support efficient and effective operations. This includes the assessment and redesign of current processes, and the integration of new applications into operations with the accompanying analysis, development and documentation of new processes.
Provides staff training on technical processes within the applications arena and may provide technical support for the development of functional training.
Leads efforts to integrate applications in order to exchange data seamlessly and efficiently. This may include analysis of business processes and development of custom interfaces.
Ensures that custom interfaces operate in an efficient manner, aligns with the operations and procedures of client offices, and works with functional leaders to address technical and performance issues.
Data, Reporting, and Business Intelligence:
Provides technical support for functional offices and other ITS leaders in the governance of data, development, and implementation of data standards, and remediation of data issues.
Manages and supports the operational reporting platform, and supports the design, installation, and development of business intelligence and data analytics systems.
Provides second- and third-level technical support of specific applications to functional offices that use them in their operations including maintaining some critical knowledge of the processes performed by functional business areas, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise, and consulting with clients on issues affecting applications and data.
Monitors the status of applications and prioritizes the response to issues as they develop according to operational needs of functional offices.
Provides support to Client Technology Services (CTS) and other ITS departments including the ongoing development and documentation of support processes and the appropriate and timely training of CTS staff.
Works with the leadership of CTS to identify first-level support offered by the CTS staff and manages the transfer of remaining support requests to EAS staff.
Manages the services provided by Enterprise Applications and ensures that staff members are equipped to provide efficient and timely client support.
Identifies and implements metrics to measure user satisfaction, seeks opportunities to improve services, and performs regular service-level assessments to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
Manages the project assignments and workload of EAS staff and works with ITS leadership to research, plan, and lead projects.
Provides technical expertise in the identification of goals, objectives, and deliverables, and develops project timelines and work breakdown structures.
Business Continuity and System Restoration:
Provides technical guidance on the design and implementation of applications that provide high availability and ensure minimal downtime, loss of productivity or service.
Works with service providers and other ITS leadership to provide best practices and support for university business continuity, disaster recovery, and system restoration efforts.
Manages the development of technology first-responder plans, training staff, conducting tests of recovery and restoration processes, and supervising the deployment of staff during actual recovery or restoration efforts.
Develops, fosters, and manages a customer-focused team that reflects university values, and establishes individual and team goals.
Develops productive relationships with leaders across the university to influence the use of applications to achieve strategic goals and initiatives.
Special Technology Support:
Works with ITS and university leaders to review special or unique technology needs, assess and select solutions, and provide support as resources allow.
Provides technical expertise to support these situations or works with other ITS leaders to identify appropriate expertise among staff members.
Monitors new developments and industry best practices to incorporate into operational management and planning for enterprise systems.
Actively promotes the creative use of technology to improve productivity and enhance customer service across the university.
Works with ITS and campus leaders to assess incidents, develop and implement response plans, and monitor developments.
Provides technical expertise and staff resources to support these efforts.
Works with the Deputy CIO and clients to evaluate and select technology solutions.
Supports technology acquisition processes and provides technical expertise to create, review, and evaluate proposals.
Strategic Planning and Assessment:
Provides technical expertise in the development of strategic plans and selection of annual goals and objectives.
Leads, manages, and supports full time staff in three units: Applications Support, Applications Development, and Distributed Applications providing performance analysis per state and university guidelines.
Minimum Job Requirements
6 or more years of progressive professional technical experience in enterprise applications, systems, and databases, including 5 years with primary responsibility for management of enterprise application environments.
5 or more years of experience in a management position leading technical professionals.
Significant technical knowledge of and experience with ERP maintenance and development, specifically Ellucian Banner.
In-depth knowledge of information architecture concepts, knowledge of and experience in web architecture and web applications, expertise with application integration, and leading complex technology projects.
Proven ability to lead, manage, motivate, develop, and evaluate professional IT staff.
Demonstrated ability to analyze, understand, and effectively communicate business requirements and technical design.
Demonstrated ability to use effective problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills to influence management, as well as internal and external partners.
Demonstrated project management experience and excellent analytical skills.
Demonstrated strong customer service orientation, experience in partnering with other units, and fostering a team spirit within the department.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and with a commitment to outstanding client service.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Significant technical knowledge of and experience with ERP maintenance and development, specifically Ellucian Banner. Technical skills should include a strong Oracle background with SQL and PL/SQL experience.
Significant technical knowledge of process design and development, service management, and planning, including experience in developing procedures for the support of new technologies and applications.
Knowledge of software testing and upgrade planning including the ability to coordinate updates in the face of multiple, competing functional requirements.
Knowledge of service management principles including experience in the identification and collection of metric data and implementation of process improvements, service catalogs, and workflow management.
Knowledge of business continuity, disaster recovery, and system recovery including the ability to design a first-level responder plan for the user community.
Effective time management skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments, manage conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines.
Experience with project management principles and enterprise-wide project implementation.
Experience in the development of annual plans, and development of project goals and objectives.
