The Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) is seeking an ACER Informatics Systems Administrator. This position will report to Director of ACER but will also work closely with important campus research stakeholders such as UI Cancer Center, and Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences to help evaluate their research cyberinfrastructure needs and to develop infrastructure solutions that allow them to advance their mission. This position will also directly collaborate with researchers to deploy latest technology and platforms to advance research in all areas, including bioinformatics, cancer informatics, clinical and translational informatics and machine learning. Works closely with the Director of ACER to build strong relationships with our users and communicate their needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:
10% Participate as a member of a highly technical and customer-service driven team. Readily share knowledge and training with other staff members, and forge close working relationships with scientific research groups across campus.
20% Evaluate new and emerging technologies and techniques of importance to UIC researchers for ongoing research as well as future initiatives such as Big Data and Data Lake.
30% Design, install, configure and administer (RHEL/CentOS, Windows) servers and clusters with High-Availability and Load Balancing features
20% Secure heterogeneous data sets bound with complex federal and state regulations and develop compliant infrastructure, policies and processes.
10% Establish continuous change and compliance tools (e.g. Chef, WSUS) to proactively monitor and manage user access, AD/LDAP/Shibboleth authentication, firewall rules, network settings, SSL certificates, installation of tools and system updates
10% Design, develop and implement necessary application platforms and technologies in physical, virtual and container environment with variety of operating systems.
Respond to incidents as well as support requests for variety of research software and databases within established SLA limits.
Perform other related duties and participated in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
2. A minimum of five (5) years professional level IT experience within System Administration & Operations which includes demostrated experience in configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to sensitive data-sets and research integrity.
Knowledge of research, clinical and transitional informatics tools is a great plus
Knowledge and command of Linux and Windows operating system environments. Strong knowledge and command of virtualization technologies and platforms such as VMWare.
Demonstrated experience with LDAP server configuration.
