Join an experienced network team in this exciting opportunity to gain advanced experience as a Senior Network Engineer. We are looking for a skilled technologist interested in the successful operation of the campus communications network. You will work with a group of highly motivated individuals to plan, design, install, and operate an always-on communications network for the faculty, staff, and students of Oakland University. Responsibilities include the opportunity to research enhancements, perform upgrades, implement solutions or solve problems for Oakland University's cable plant, network hardware, and telephony infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, wireless infrastructure, phone systems, voice mail, and call distribution systems. We work with equipment primarily from Cisco in addition to vendors such as Aruba, Juniper, Palo Alto, among others. Three or more years of network engineering experience in wired, wireless, or voice enterprise network environments. Demonstrated experience with a variety of networking concepts, practices, and procedures. Demonstrated experience configuring routers, switches, computers, and wireless access points for successful network operations in a Cisco environment. Some familiarity with the UNIX command line environment. Familiarity with the support of DNS and DHCP. Knowledge of design, maintenance, and trouble-shooting for data and voice communications and network systems. Bachelor's degree in major that includes exposure to Computer Science, Telecommunications, Networking, Engineering, or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently as a contributing team member and routinely update director on results. Ability to mentor less experienced staff members. Ability to contribute to group projects and work collaboratively as a member of a strong technical team. Ability to travel once or twice a year for education, professional development, or conferences. Willingness to earn industry certifications.Ability to perform light lifting as appropriate for network hardware installations and maintenance. Flexibility in work schedule willingness to occasionally adjust work hours on Wednesdays between midnight and 8 A.M. for the maintenance window. No weekends except in emergencies no on-call rotation. Must live in the area this is not a remote work position. Writing sample should include a document you have created for anything related to instructions or documentation.
