Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Technology the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership to the faculty, staff and students in specified programs. The incumbents work with faculty to ensure the continued currency, vibrancy, and high quality of diploma, degree and graduate programs within the School of Applied Computing in the following areas: information systems security, mobile computing, computer systems technology, computer programming, data storage/access & cloud services, game programming, and interactive media. This includes planning and administration of resources, rapid review and development of curriculum, development of strong partnerships with industry as well as internal departments and stakeholders, support for creative and engaging teaching and learning methods, collaboration with other Faculties and internal stakeholders on inter professional curriculum and student projects, providing support for faculty with research initiatives, and integration of applied research into the curriculum.
•Providing academic leadership in the development, delivery and currency of diploma, degree and graduate programs of specified programs in the School of Applied Computing; •Hiring high quality full and part-time faculty within his/her program cluster and negotiating in regard to Standard Workload Forms and part-time contracts; •Ensuring that program outcomes are achieved through effective leadership of quickly changing curriculum and engaging teaching and learning practices; •Ensuring the development of a strong identity, a positive reputation and a clear sense of mandate and direction within the programs through the achievement of shared educational objectives that are current, effective, relevant to student needs and consistent with the strategic direction of the College; •Facilitating the development of a sense of accountability and commitment to shared responsibility among the faculty and staff of the programs, in particular with regard to the development and administration of the School budget, and the effective and efficient allocation of resources to address both immediate operational requirements and longer term priorities of the programs; •Ensuring students receive effective advisement and support; ensuring the smooth and positive functioning of the programs through the identification, mediation and resolution of any conflicts involving students, faculty or staff; •Providing leadership to ensure a high quality of teaching, and faculty commitment to professional development; •Maintaining a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating of faculty and staff; •Working with Professional Advisory Committees and Faculty to ensure currency of curriculum; •Working with faculty to provide support for research initiatives and research centres; •Developing program budgets and enrollment plans in conjunction with the Dean, Operations Manager and Faculty leadership team, and managing both to ensure the provision of appropriate facilities and resources; •Implementing a flexible, responsive Faculty academic plan as part of the academic planning process of the college.
The successful candidate must possess an advanced degree in a related field (Master’s required, Ph.D. designation preferred). A minimum of 7 years of experience in a post-secondary educational environment and/or significant management/leadership experience in Computing, Information Technology or a related field is required. A solid understanding of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry in Ontario and its issues and trends is also required. The incumbents must possess excellent leadership, teambuilding, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills. Flexibility and the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously, as well as demonstrated creative problem-solving skills are essential. The incumbents will have a broad understanding of cultural diversity, be self-directed, committed to a team model of decision-making and operations management, and committed to ensuring an environment of education and employment equity. Teaching experience, curriculum development and design will be considered an asset. Industry experience will be considered an asset.
