ROLE of the POSITION Primary responsibilities include administration of enterprise network infrastructure components critical to UNLV’s data, voice, and storage network integration functions. The position requires advanced network administration skills in combination with scripting and programming abilities. The person holding this position will collaborate and work with other engineers to design, implement, monitor, and operate the UNLV enterprise network composed of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and Linux-based enterprise server systems. This position requires collaboration with system and database administrators to facilitate a robust campus wide infrastructure. The position will also assume a leadership role in the strategic planning, development, and administration of the UNLV wireless network.
QUALIFICATIONS Education: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience: This position requires a minimum of 5 years of related professional experience.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated successful implementation of enterprise wireless network technologies
In-depth knowledge of the following:
LAN switching technologies
Network infrastructure services, and network infrastructure maintenance, operation and design
In-depth knowledge and strong hands-on technical experience with the following:
Networking components (routers, switches, and wireless infrastructure)
Network protocols (e.g. OSPF, HSRP, BGP, LACP, Multicast, underlying IP telephony and IP Video protocols, SNMP, IPv6)
In addition, the following is required:
Advanced hands-on technical experience, both configuration and management, with firewalls, VPN services, and other remote access tools
Proficient in programming skills to automate complex network operations
Strong organizational skills
Strong presentation skills and ability to convey ideas clearly to others in both verbal and written form
Strong oral communication skills to interact with team members and customers
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to adhere to and execute projects and tasks based on the priority defined by supervisor
Must be available to serve in an on-call rotation for unexpected emergencies and work extended shifts.
Must be willing to adjust shift schedule to perform maintenance and upgrades outside of business hours a minimum of once per week.
SALARY RANGE Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. The position is contingent upon funding with a salary range of $83,000-$89,000.
