Purdue University is seeking a Manager, Network Engineering. In this role, you will manage the Network Engineering team of 4-7 senior network engineers and designers in the design and engineering of network services. Your team will be responsible for the development of designs, policies, and standards for the campus data networks, as well as ensuring a smooth transition to production and providing tier-3 support to network operations.
The core network infrastructure consists of approximately 2000 Cisco network switches and nearly 10,000 Wireless access points across 220 buildings. The network runs many standard network protocols including IS-IS, EIGRP, OSPF, MPLS, iBGP, eBGP, Spanning-tree, IPv4, and IPv6. You will need to develop an understanding of the significant complexity of the Purdue campus network environment and the legacy of service development.
As the manager you are expected to: promote innovation in the design and operation of the campus network (infrastructure as code using tools like Ansible and python should be exciting to you.); work with engineers to translate customer requirements into network designs; select between competing technical solutions to a problem; and develop budgets for new solutions deployed on the network.
As the manager will have responsibility for recruiting network engineers for their team, assisting in the hiring with engineers in network operations, as well as carrying out continual performance management and staff development activities to maintain and improve the professional and technical performance of individuals in the team.
- The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree with at least four years of experience designing and building data networks. In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
