The Technology Support Specialist’s primary role is to coordinate and facilitate the college’s Workstation Refresh Program. The Technology Support Specialist reports to the Manager of Technology Support Services. The Workstation Refresh Program involves the cycling out of approximately 400 computers each year. About half that count is classrooms and labs which can be done in bulk. However, the Faculty and Staff refreshes involve a personal meeting with each user. This position is active because of the number of refreshes, so you will find yourself frequently away from your desk and all over campus. The Technology Support Specialist meets with the head of the scheduled department and discussions the options and the process of the program. Then the Technology Support Specialist schedules and conducts, or delegates, the actual computer swaps.
The Technology Support Specialist will back-up the Technology Support Services System Administrator’s duties of administering the lab and classroom computers, the creation of images, and maintenance of the System Center Configuration Management software. The Technology Support Specialist assists the Help Desk and Media Services in the closing of IT tickets. Working hours may include early morning hours, nights and weekends as necessary to apply upgrades, patches and services which impact the production environments.
