This Database Analyst Senior position is part of the ASU Technology office and is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the design, development, modification and implementation of databases and database environments; ensures all database environments are highly available and recoverable; provides technical support and leadership for supported database environments; provides and designs tools to aid in the management of the databases and client/server environment; ensures all database environments are secured by deploying user provisioning, database encryption, and data masking techniques.
Ensure availability and performance of MSSQL database environments that support multiple critical applications.
Ensure associated hardware resources are optimally allocated to the database servers.
Proactively monitor the database environments to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
Provide trend analysis and database documentation / reports to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management and availability of the systems.
Troubleshoot and problem solve issues related to the MSSQL environments.
Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include patching and upgrades.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes to support the application development teams in both the development and production environments.
Perform migration of database components from/to DEV, QA, and Production in support of Development teams.
Review vendor database requirements & recommendations, and implement optimal and secure solutions.
Provide SQL Server Integration Services - Extract, Transform, Load
This is a 24/7 support environment and will require on-call availability.
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field and 4 years database administration including creating and updating table structures and views as well as writing stored procedures OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
MySQL, Sybase, and PostgreSQL platforms
Cloud environments such as AWS database Services
MSSQL database administration
Experience writing SSIS packages
Experience in/with the following: design, setup, installation, and implementation of databases in large scale environments; routine database maintenance including backups, restores, re-indexing, integrity checks, jobs, alerts, processes, etc.
Experience with SQL coding and SQL tuning for optimum performance of queries
Experience with MSSQL and/or Oracle would be a plus
Being self-sufficiency and using initiative working on database-related projects
Implementing and documenting database processes such as component migration, failover, and disaster recovery models
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Database design principles, practices and methods
Database Encryption techniques
Database query tools including, but not limited to, SQL Server Management Studio
SQL tuning; database indexing
Database disaster recovery techniques
Certificates from recognized programs that indicate mastery of MSSQL tools and techniques.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Work environment is a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
Lift up to 20 pounds.
Clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
Receive regular review of completed tasks.
