Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Four  years of full-time experience in upgrading, installing, configuring, securing, monitoring, performance tuning and troubleshooting Learning Management System's such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc... Two  years of full-time programming/scripting experience in Unix Shell and any other programming languages. Working knowledge in SQL queries
Advanced Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in configuration of web applications, including HTTPS and log analysis. Experience in network security. Experience managing LMS in UNIX/LINUX environments. Experience in Oracle SQL query tuning. Experience in successful performance tuning in complex systems.
Brief Description of Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, patching, integrating, and troubleshooting Blackboard, PeopleSoft ERP middleware, and other software applications, to include writing scripts to automate some administrative tasks. Keeping information security in mind, this position will contribute to the efforts of safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the enterprise applications and information assets across the University while giving our user community the best, most up-to-date, reliable, resilient tools and data to build the Stony Brook experience. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Learning Management Systems (LMS) Administration: Provide senior level system engineering support for Stony Brook University's day-to-day LMS (currently Blackboard Bb) operations: i.e. administrating, installing, patching, configuring and upgrading. Initiate server tuning, bug fixes, building block and module additions. Identify and resolve highly complex system problems. Formulate system error reports and initiate vendor support calls to resolve system problems. Write scripts to support report and function automations. Evaluate the Bb replacement and cloud solutions, performing project management related tasks for transitions on the systems side.
In performance of all job duties, at all times be responsible for delivering optimal customer service, for protecting institutional data and privacy, and the excellent delivery of solutions and services by following divisional and University policies, procedures, and processes.
Problem Resolution: Participate in the problem resolution process in support of application development efforts and user community with issues of functionalities. Identify, diagnose, and correct issues from CELT's reports, servers, databases, networks, or configuration errors, providing current, dynamic resolutions.
Backup support of PeopleSoft ERP middleware and PeopleSoft Finance server Administrations: Install, patch, and configure Oracle Tuxedo, Weblogic, Java in Linux, Windows, and Solaris environment. Constantly watch security vulnerabilities and apply patches. Assist the server administration and tools upgrade for PeopleSoft Finance in Unix/Linux/Windows environments. Develop procedures and codes using Unix/Linux shell, Perl, and Windows Powershell that contribute to and support the successful operation of this environment.
Document Management Project Support: As a subject matter expert, provide support for projects involving server configuration, various software installation & integration, deployment & upgrades, platform migrations, and troubleshooting.
Provide server and web application support for DoIT partners, deprecated, open source, and independent services: Maintain deprecated servers and services as directed by management, as best practical and possible, limited by risk reduction and investment balance, to reduce and limit dependence on risky or abandoned technology. (Example: AMP servers. Keep the open source software up to date, apply security patches according to the InfoSec's Data Classification Policy. Install the certificates before they expire.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
