Macalester College ITS seeks to hire a full-time Desktop Support Consultant to join our Support Services team. In this position, you will provide technology support for Macalester's faculty, staff, and students, using your great customer service skills and strong troubleshooting capabilities to resolve problems, take preventative action to reduce future issues, and provide consultation services in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Engage and build relationships with a diverse community across campus as you diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues. Craft accessible documentation and guides for use by ITS staff, student employees, and others.
Use phone, email, chat, remote support tools, and in person interactions to work with clients for support and consultation.
Work independently and as part of a team to accurately record, update, and document work using the ITS ticketing system. Contribute to managing this system, including queue management and assignment of tasks within the Support Services team.
Collaborate with the Help Desk Manager to train, supervise, and mentor a talented and diverse team of student workers. Foster a harmonious, engaging work environment for Support Services student staff.
Work within ITS and with other College units in support of information technologies and services. Gather, share, and solve IT support challenges with colleagues around the College. Contribute to our overall goal of strong client service in a collaborative working environment.
High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
At least one full year of full-time work experience supporting computers, printers, and other technology in a higher education, corporate, or other enterprise environment.
Experience supporting common productivity software, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience supporting both Windows and macOS operating systems and software.
Interest and aptitude in customer service and interpersonal relations, including strong written and verbal communication with a variety of colleagues and clients.
Ability and willingness to support, respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view in order to foster an inclusive work environment.
Helpful Skills, Interests, and Aptitudes
You have experience guiding, coaching, or mentoring others, especially diverse groups of students or volunteers.
You can confidently navigate and support web-based calendaring, email, and other tools, such as Google G-Suite and Moodle.
You have a basic understanding of Active Directory, networking, and account provisioning.
You have used systems such as SCCM, Jamf Pro, and Bomgar to manage and support devices.
You have overseen the setup, maintenance, and support of computer labs or computer classrooms.
You’ve earned technical certifications for Windows, macOS, Jamf Pro, System Center Configuration Manager, ITIL, KCS, and/or other technologies or practices.
You are interested in learning more about systems management, technology instruction, or asset management.
