This is an entry-level IT security position. The IT security specialist at the University of Dayton is responsible for supporting the director of IT security in implementing and sustaining the University’s IT security programs.
This individual will possess knowledge of regulatory requirements, information security systems, services, IT policies, procedures, and controls. The IT security specialist will interact with IT staff across the campus and will serve as an IT security resource with respect to on-going IT systems security monitoring, coordinating new and ongoing systems access privileges, supporting 3rd party systems security reviews and documentation, managing, reviewing and flagging system security logs, reports and alerts for potential security risks and engaging in various system vulnerability assessments as assigned by the director of IT security. Additionally, the IT security specialist will support threat intelligence and assessment programs as assigned by the IT security director and, on occasion, support IT security-related activities of the Center for Cybersecurity & Data Intelligence.
a) Associate’s degree with relevant coursework in IT security, computer science or related field completed or near completion.
b) Two years’ work experience in a computer-related environment
c) Accomplish Security+ certification within a year of employment
d) Effective written communication skills
e) Proven commitment to providing excellent customer service across all dimensions of the job
duties on a consistent basis
f) Demonstrated knowledge of broad IT security issues and practices
g) Demonstrated knowledge of Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite and similar software
h) Working knowledge of information security standards such as NIST or similar
i) Exposure to network devices, routers, firewalls and switches
j) General awareness of risk-based assessment methodologies
k) Applicants must be authorized to work in the US on a full time basis
a) BS degree in computer science or related field
b) Current Security+ certification or greater
c) 3+ years of work experience in IT security
d) Effective interpersonal skills
e) Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
f) Ability to organize and multi-task job responsibilities effectively
g) Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge to apply to new situations
h) Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Visio
i) General understanding of technical operations of networks, operating systems, authentication protocols and databases
j) Successful experience with firewalls, NIDS, SIEM, endpoint security, mobility management, and vulnerability scanning.
k) Working knowledge of Rapid 7, Splunk and similar IT security logging and monitoring tools.
