The College of Liberal Arts is the largest college at the University of Minnesota, with over 16,000 students and more than 40 departments. Our unit, LATIS (Liberal Arts Technologies and Innovation Services), helps our College innovate and lead in research, student learning, and process improvement.Within LATIS, our Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team is responsible for helping faculty, from designing online learning environments to constructing and incorporating specialized student assignments. We maintain strong, collaborative relationships with departments across CLA, the Libraries, central IT, and beyond.
We’re looking for an “Academic Technologist 2” to join our team. In University lingo, an “AT2” is an entry level position who will work with and learn from our team as we focus on expanding a digital learning initiative within CLA. Day to day, that involves meeting with faculty and instructors to understand their courses, and applying your knowledge of instructional design and best practices in online and blended learning to help produce learner-centered, technology-enhanced course experiences.
We are looking for applicants who may or may not have an instructional design degree, but who have some background in instructional design, course design and/or curriculum planning and who also fervently believe in the value of a liberal arts degree.
We are actively seeking applicants from underrepresented groups, so please don’t hesitate to share this opportunity as broadly as possible.
LATIS TEL is a progressive, focused team that is deeply committed to elevating the liberal arts through teaching, learning and research. We do that by aligning our efforts with the goals of the College, investing in the relationships we have with faculty, students, and staff, and fostering a culture of innovation in the liberal arts.
Working at the University is pretty remarkable. We offer a strong benefits package, including tuition subsidies, and generous retirement and healthcare benefits. You also get to work in an extremely dynamic environment, with people who spend every day working to make the world a better, healthier, and safer place.
This position pays $55,000+ depending on qualifications.
There will be two interviews. In the first you’ll meet with a small group of employees from LATIS and our partner organizations to discuss the job, your previous experience, and your qualifications. The first interview will be done remotely and will take about 60 minutes.
In the second interview, you’ll chat with members of the leadership team about LATIS and your interest in the mission of the College of Liberal Arts. This second round may also be conducted online if it is difficult for you to get to campus.
