Position Summary Middlebury College's Information Technology Services (ITS) group is responsible for providing storage, system, network, endpoint, administrative, academic, and research computing services to the community. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Enterprise Architecture will work closely with fellow architects, managers, technical leads, system administrators, developers and strategic partners as we build a world-class, service-oriented team supporting the technology needs of one of the world's great colleges
The Director of Enterprise Architecture will establish strategic direction for, and participate in developing technology roadmaps, assist the CIO in developing the IT strategy, provide a hands-on implementation approach on complex projects within research, digital learning, administrative systems, and infrastructure following the industry best-practices; develop and align strategic objectives with technical requirements; and research relevant technical trends, platforms and software. Areas of responsibility include but not limited to Oracle Cloud Services, Blackbaud, Banner, VMware virtualization, data center networking, cloud computing, endpoint computing, load balancing, application servers, system management, build and deployment tools, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Red Hat Linux, and High-Performance Computing.
Responsibilities Essential Functions Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
1. Manage and develop direct reports that are solution architects through the performance management process and ongoing coaching. Ensure that direct reports maintain a strong understanding of all key practices, standards, and policies and act in accordance with them. 2. Develops functional and/or service goals that ensure conformity and uniformity with College policies within their assigned area of responsibility. 3. Oversees new and existing systems and services development to include modification of existing systems. 4. Evaluates user needs and implement systems and solutions to best serve the community. 5. Consults with users and IT functions to diagnose and resolve complex problems. 6. Serves as a liaison between areas of responsibility and ITS to ensure conformity with the department and the institution goals. 7. Develops troubleshooting and problem resolution programs to ensure a high level of service and efficiency. 8. Influences and collaborates with clients and ITS functions to maximize the delivery of services and solutions. 9. Build and develop an Architecture Review Board to provide a governance framework for technology decisions around campus.

Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field and ten years of related technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience 1. Demonstrated experience with technology infrastructure design, provisioning, deployment and capacity management for complex applications running on multiple platforms and technologies. 2. Broad technical knowledge of automation, virtualization, load balancing, web application programming, database administration, networking, identity management, and Linux and Windows server management, administrative systems, and research computing. 3. Experience with capacity planning, high availability architecture, disaster recovery planning and implementation. 4. Excellent communication and presentation skills. 5. Skilled consensus builder with capacity to initiate and foster collaborative partnerships
