Work proactively with general supervision to support students, faculty, and staff at Arizona Western College as well as members of the public and our university partners by providing advanced technical expertise, server and application administration, and support for all members of the ITSS teams. Design secure network systems using a systems engineering approach that supports business processes throughout the College. Systems include all aspects of networking including but not limited to: Firewalls, routers, switches, security appliances, load balancers, WAPs, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VOIP, and SD-WAN. Works with technical and non-technical staff and faculty to determine the scope and objectives of proposed network configurations and ensure proper system design and configuration.
Develop, maintain, and provide architecture, the process vision and roadmap, as well as integration and problem solving at an enterprise level. Develop detailed proposal and implementation plans to accommodate network growth, security, and other enhancements. Conduct capacity monitoring of network resources and proactively act to mitigate risks.
Develop a robust network monitoring solution (including IDS / IPS) with appropriate alerting and reporting. Proactively optimizes network for maximum performance to support current and future business processes and infrastructure needs.
Serve as an expert/advisor on issues of risk, cyber security, FERPA, PII, HIPAA, and PCI. Develop and support the implementation of controls and procedures to protect information systems from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction. Ensure that all network and networked systems and applications comply with security policies and procedures. Participate in and support security practices developing security recommendations and implementations as well as identify and communicate opportunities to improve the cyber security posture of the college and reduce risk.
Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to direct reports to support continued professional development and career growth of staff.
Actively engages in a process of continual professional development, encompassing hard technical skills and personal soft skills. Volunteers for and participates in college committees, local, and national groups related to professional duties and responsibilities.
Support and participate in strategic initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required: Associates degree or six years’ experience supporting wired and wireless network systems in an enterprise environment. Ability to translate business strategies into architecture requirements with strong organizational and customer service skills. Detailed knowledge of risk and cyber security, and advanced scripting experience. Professional written and verbal communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse user base of faculty, staff, and students having various levels of technical knowledge. Ability to self-manage and prioritize work and balance competing priorities, and to provide clear and useful documentation of work. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment driven by customer service and teamwork. Must be able to reach, bend, kneel, stoop, and lift 50 pounds unassisted.
Preferred: Industry standard professional certification. Network experience in a hybrid on premise / cloud environment, leveraging Microsoft services. Experience with Cisco network equipment, working knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, Microsoft or VMware virtualization technologies, and expert scripting experience. Experience supporting IT in a higher-education setting.
Notes: Evening, weekend, holiday, overtime hours and travel may be required.
