Reports To: Vice President of Finance and Administration
Job Summary/Objective: The Director of Technology Services advises, plans, implements and manages the technology infrastructure of the college including related policy, systems, and staff. The Director of Technology Services researches trends in technology to guide the college in planning its long-term systems architecture, selecting emerging technologies to keep the college operating efficiently. Sweet Briar’s ERP is Ellucian Banner and the Director of Technology Services will provide functional expertise to optimize its usage in key areas such as Finance, Financial Aid, and Alumnae Relations & Development. The Director of Technology Services is responsible for overall system security, integrity and disaster recovery. For all of the above to be achievable, the most important responsibility is the personal and professional support of staff, fostering every opportunity possible to encourage collaboration, exploration and broadening of skill sets to enrich the lives of the team and benefit the mission of the college and its students.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours: Full time, Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with flexibility for events or special projects as needed
6-10 staff members ranging from front line help desk support to server, network and ERP (Banner) administrators and technicians
Strategically maintain interoperability of all systems for optimal performance.
Remain current and present new and updated technology which can be used to improve business / system operations.
Develop, maintain and oversee IT policies for compliance, security and reporting purposes.
Create standard and complex queries against Oracle, Banner forms, and all respective inclusive structures and fulfillment of report requests.
Plan, design and implement the college network infrastructure including wired, wireless and related systems and devices.
Plan, design and implement servers and software services, both physically local and offsite, along with associated storage, backup mechanisms and disaster recovery procedures.
Oversee the management, implementation and maintenance of technical aspects of the college telecommunications and broadband infrastructure in cooperation with the SBC Telecom auxiliary services of the college.
Be a resource to college faculty, students, administrators, department heads, and staff on planning technology-centric initiatives and assisting with their implementation.
Provide professional leadership and support to the computing staff groups.
Foster collaboration among groups for the greatest efficiency and support of college mission.
Work with the administration to establish and efficiently manage the budget for technology operations of the college.
Identifies and initiates partnerships with outside entities in the community and industry to enhance the college acquisition, deployment and use of technology resources.
Regularly communicates with the community regarding systems, services, initiatives and developments related to technology at the college.
Assures that publications and other public information concerning technology at the college are accurate, current and effectively promote the college.
Oversees and assures the accurate reporting of required information to relevant regulatory, oversight or similar agencies and organizations.
Endeavors to ensure Sweet Briar College makes the most effective and efficient use of technology in support of its mission and is recognized as an innovative institution, academically, professionally and in social and other.
Participates actively in national and international professional activities.
Other duties of similar nature and character to those mentioned above, that may be assigned.
Ensure Backup / Restore and DRP will meet the needs of business operations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; or equivalent experience.
Working knowledge of SQL database systems including prior experience with Banner (ex. finance module) and Oracle.
Minimum 10 years’ experience and recognized, documented achievement in systems and network design, implementation and management.
Experience negotiating and administering of technology vendor and consultant contracts and service agreements.
Management of financial aspects of the IT Department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
Three years or more programming experience.
Demonstrated management of Heavy Linux Environment - RedHat / CentOS primarily and some Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016.
Demonstrated management of VMWare vSphere Platform.
Working knowledge of MS Access products (Argos knowledge a plus).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and instinctively knows what must be done for the success of the organization.
Demonstrated business process knowledge.
Project management experience/certification
Work Environment: Traditional office environment, primarily indoors.
Physical Demands: Extensive computer use and typing required; extended periods of sitting/standing may be required.
Travel: Less than 10% for travel and/or conference attendance or training
