Job Summary/Objective: Manage the functionality, health and security of SBC’s servers, security, and related systems
Position Type/Expected Work Hours: Full time, Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with flexibility for events, system support, or special projects as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities: Student employees.
Design, install, and configure physical or virtual servers as needs dictate.
Willingness and ability to develop new skillsets to meet demands of technology services.
Maintain the health of existing systems, managing upgrades and patches as needed at the operating system and hardware / application level.
Monitor and maintain a sizable on-campus VMWare vSphere system and associated infrastructure (blades, network connectivity, SAN, etc).
Monitor and maintain existing cloud-based servers and systems, expanding on these resources when deemed beneficial to operations.
Implement reliable data backup mechanisms and disaster recovery procedures.
Establish and implement sound security policies for all campus systems.
Monitor network and server security.
Support the frontline helpdesk staff on higher level server and network issues that might arise.
Work on cross-departmental projects that may require your expertise.
Routinely engage with students, faculty and staff outside of the immediate department. This may include work-study opportunities for students, support of unique projects with various faculty and staff members and engaging in end-user education on topics of security.
Experience in of all aspects of maintaining large Linux environment, (RedHat, Centos), and some Windows server operating systems 2008, 2012, 2016.
Operational skillset with Web Servers (Linux), VPN, DHCP, LDAP, and RADIUS.
Experience managing heavily virtualized infrastructure - preference toward firsthand experience with VMWare vSphere, ESXi, Veeam, Amazon EC2 and related systems.
Experience in the setup, configuration and management of the following:
Meraki WiFi Access Points throughout campus
Meraki MX400 for edge connectivity
Established skills in network and server security.
Oversee various cloud-based services w/data exchange to campus.
Manage surveillance cameras.
Comfort with Python, Ruby or similar languages extremely beneficial.
Must work well as a member of a small, dynamic team while being an engaged member of a vibrant academic community.
Ability to create useful documentation to aid colleagues in providing coverage and support.
Willingness to work off hours as occasional upgrades, deadlines or emergency situations dictate.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems with at least 3 years of experience or combination of extensive work experience and demonstrated skills.
Industry certification including Cisco and Meraki
Work Environment: Traditional office environment, primarily indoors.
Physical Demands: Extensive computer use and typing required; extended periods of sitting/standing may be required.
Travel: Less than 10% for travel and/or conference attendance or training
