The network administrator is primarily responsible for daily administration of a network/server environment including monitoring network performance, troubleshooting issues and deploying solutions. The network administrator also creates and maintains a disaster recovery, security, and back-up and restore plan. May assist with evaluating new technologies to optimize network efficiency and performance.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Manage, design, and troubleshoot school-wide network infrastructure including Servers, LANs, WAN, Internet, intranet and wireless connectivity.
Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for infrastructure administration and project management.
Maintain best practices for IT documentation and change management.
Participate in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the IT team.
Prepare bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for infrastructure projects and associated efforts.
Monitor and measure network performance and provide performance statistics and reports to develop strategies for optimizing and maintaining network infrastructure.
Negotiate with vendors, and contractors to secure infrastructure-specific products and services.
Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality & infrastructure requirements and upgrades.
Work collaboratively with entire IT team to meet school and user requirements.
Assist with the planning and deployment of network infrastructure security measures.
Respond to infrastructure emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed and provide support under the College emergency management plan and business continuity planning and recovery.
EDUCATION, SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor degree in the field of computer science, information sciences, or related field.
Must have 5+ years' experience supporting network infrastructure design and operation
Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
Proven experience troubleshooting, designing and maintaining wireless network devices
Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
Proven experience with VMware on SAN and backup practices
Excellent knowledge of VOIP systems telephone systems.
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards
Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
Extensive application support experience with network management, Firewall and Windows applications.
Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
Possess strong communication and training skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
Possess applicable certifications such as MCTS, MCITP, Network+, VMWare or equivalent experience.
Requires special technical knowledge of the techniques and procedures of software and network support for multiple users. Must understand installation, configuration, and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, networking, and accessory equipment.
Requires sufficient analytical skills to quickly assess problems or unusual situations, and develop solutions.
Ability and/or sufficient knowledge to assemble and disassemble personal computer and server components.
Demonstrated ability to investigate and analyze information, and draw conclusions; plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system software; to write technical instructions in the use of programs and/or program modifications; to learn and support new hardware and software.
Knowledge of computer security procedures and protocols; understanding of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.
Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.
Requires high degree of integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information that may be observed during the course of the job duties; ability to make decisions by practicing sound judgment.
Knowledge of various cloud computing business models.
Expert knowledge in server storage, and backup practices.
Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
Experience using a helpdesk ticketing system.
