The Educational Data Analyst will be one of the key learner analytics data experts at Arizona State University. ASU utilizes learner analytics data for student success initiatives, course development, and research. The data include Learning Management System (LMS), discussion forum, eBook, assessment, and other learning resources. The analyst will be both a technical and functional expert on this set of data. This means they will be able to join/query the data in addition to understanding what the data mean and how they are used at ASU.
Develop data queries on educational data in order to meet requirements of departments needing access to the data
Assist the ETL development teams who are ingesting data by adding context and understanding to the data
Consult with internal customers as a data expert. The Educational Data Analyst will understand what can and can’t be done with the data in order to help internal customers build reasonable requirements
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology or closely related field AND six years prior relevant experience in a large, multi-user data environment including responsibility for development of customized queries and reports OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Minimum 5 years experience as a data analyst. This includes performing both simple and complex data queries, creating and managing relational databases, and building visualizations to tell data stories
Minimum 3 years experience working with educational data. This must include hands-on experience with LMS data. Preferably will also include hands-on experience with SIS (Student Information System) data and additional learning tools data (ebooks, discussion forums, assessment systems)
Minimum 2 years experience with Tableau or similar enterprise data visualization tool
Experience with Amazon Web Services environment preferred (including Redshift, and AWS Machine Learning tools)
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills, specifically from a consultative perspective
Experience in listening, eliciting requirements, documenting interactions, delivering effective presentations, being timely, and helping stakeholders solve their problems
Experience in predictive analytics/modeling to support student enrollment, retention and success measures
Experience in displaying complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and to present findings in a clear and concise manner.
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
