The University Technology Office (UTO) is looking for a Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence Engineer. This position will work with data related to the student educational experience at Arizona State University and online.
Understand the University and departmental business problem(s) to be solved, identifying the relationship between the data and the optimal modeling approach
Perform data collection, preparation and analysis. This includes:
Original data gathering (through instrumentation, surveys, user feedback, etc.)
Curation, coding, and structuring of data from multiple sources
Descriptive data analysis to understand dataset characteristics (e.g., completeness, skewness, heteroskedasticity, etc.)
Based on the business problems to be solved, verify that sufficient data exists for both independent & dependent variables in various modeling approaches
Code and develop machine learning prototypes, utilize machine learning frameworks, deploy in production environments.
Using desktop tools like R & Python
Using cloud ML services and tools from AWS, Azure, other services providers
Perform troubleshooting, problem-solving, and iterative testing, retesting, and refinement of models
Collaborate within UTO and across Arizona State University in order to improve the effectiveness of business decisions through the use of data and machine learning/predictive modeling.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, information technology or closely related field and five (5) years of related experience OR Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, information technology or closely related field and two (2) years of related experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Working understanding and fluency with various ML models and approaches:
Voice recognition and natural language processing
Image recognition and live video sense-making
Pattern recognition modeling across large data sets, including:
Linear and nonlinear regression
Artificial neural networks (and training)
Instance-based and association learning
Deep Learning algorithms
Math background, language proficiency, demonstrated machine learning experience
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Familiarity with Pandas (Python package) https://pandas.pydata.org/
Experience with AWS Sagemaker (Build/Deploy Data Science Pipelines)
Perform data preparation using packages such as Numpy, Scipy, pandas, dplyr
Code and develop machine learning prototypes in languages such as Python, R, SAS, Java, C++
Utilize machine learning frameworks such as Keras, Tensorflow, SciKit-Learn, Caffe, MXNet
Experience with SQL and NoSQL queries (DynamoDB or MongoDB Query Language)
Experience with ETL tools (Alteryx, AWS Glue, Matillion)
Visualize data using packages such as plotly, ggplot2, Matplotlib, including web-based using Python, D3.js, R, Tableau
Work is performed in a standard office environment subject to prolonged periods of a stationary position and manipulation of computer keyboard and associated peripheral/mouse.
