Curricular and Research Computing (CRC) contributes to the academic mission of the College by providing programs and services that help the faculty and students easily and effectively use information technology in their teaching, learning and research. CRC staff routinely consult and collaborate with faculty on a range of resources from using the college’s course and content management systems to creating media rich curricular content to developing computational and digital projects in support of teaching and scholarship.
The Academic Technology Consultant – Web Learning Platforms provides hands-on services and support to faculty, students and relevant support staff in the appropriate use of technology to enhance teaching and learning. This position actively pursues knowledge of information technology applications appropriate to a liberal arts setting and collaborates with faculty and students on evaluating and supporting established as well as newly emerging web technologies. In addition, contributes to the development and support of academic web services, including the college’s course management system (presently Moodle) and cloud-based services for hosting and developing web platforms for curricular purposes. The position involves collaboration with staff and faculty across ILS and the College to ensure the provision of computing services and resources in support of the academic mission of the College.
This is a full time, full year position.
Participates in the research and deployment of user friendly features, functions, and tools that enhance the curricular uses and value of the college’s course management system
Supports the scholarly uses of cloud-based web services (including AWS, Reclaim Hosting, Jupyter Notebooks, etc)
In consultation with faculty and CRC colleagues, develops, implements, and supports web platforms, including Moodle, Scalar, WordPress, Omeka, etc
Demonstrated ability to work productively in a diverse and multi-disciplinary academic and research environment.
Able to provide one-on-one and small group instruction
Additional Job Functions:
Work closely with ILS personnel to ensure proper functioning of academic technology systems and software
Help promote and support extracurricular uses of CRC facilities, where appropriate, to provide informal opportunities for students to develop new competencies with computing technologies
Participate in technology instruction programs for faculty, staff, and students
Learn new technologies and remain current in developing trends
Other duties (including serving on departmental and campus working groups and committees) as assigned
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic discipline, Master’s degree preferred.
The ideal candidate will have:
1-2 years, experience:
working in an academic or research computing environment
developing web publishing platforms
building, administering, and supporting websites in various content management systems
supporting web systems by performing upgrades, troubleshooting issues, developing customizations and enhancements
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with and teach a wide range of users with variable needs and interests
Strong presentation skills
Strong time, task, and project management skills
Ability to work independently and with flexibility to adapt to change required.
Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and work effectively with faculty and staff at all levels of the College.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships with students, staff, faculty and co-workers.
