The MIT Kavli Institute (MKI) for Astrophysics and Space Research is the PI institution for NASA's TESS mission and forms part of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory and the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. It also operates several instruments in space and on ground-based observatories, is developing new instruments for future astrophysical research, and uses high-performance computing for astrophysics simulations.
MKI seeks an IT desktop support and network specialist to provide technical support for both hardware and software to its faculty, research staff, postdocs, graduate students, and administrative staff.
Help design and manage MKI’s computer networks and provide technical support for its desktop platforms--chiefly MacOS X and Linux systems--and for peripherals (printers, plotters, A/V systems, etc.) Manage MKI’s Confluence- and Jira-based content system
Work with vendors and the department’s purchasing agent to assist in all stages of purchasing and installing new IT systems and training their users
Support equipment audits and local A/V needs
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems or related field
At least three years of multiplatform desktop support experience
Detailed knowledge of recent releases of MacOS X and Linux and experience with wired and wireless computer networks
Demonstrated problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to multitask under a variety of deadlines
Relational database experience
The initial appointment is for three years with the expectation of renewal.
