As part of the UTO, this Server Administrator position will contribute to the effective development, deployment and management of platforms that support a number of university wide technology initiatives. This position administers, manages and evaluates all aspects of the server/system architecture to ensure optimal network reliability, security, data integrity and inter-operability with third party systems and applications.
Depends on Experience
Manages and oversees performance of all servers and network performance within the University Technology Office to ensure adherence with established standards and policies.
Works closely with internal and external customers, evaluate and resolve network and infrastructure issues
Evaluates and integrates new technology, methodologies and data administration protocols, standards and security measures consistent with overall objectives of the University
Plans future growth of the University’s infrastructure through projecting and forecasting capacity requirements based on analysis of current performance levels and ability to meet demands
Maintains and reviews connectivity, monitors performance of servers, network and database integrity; coordinates diagnostic testing to correct performance problems
Coordinates and performs testing of system enhancements and patches; performs test scripts and system configuration to ensure results achieve desired outcomes throughout all effected systems.
Participates in feasibility studies of new and/or enhancements to current infrastructure solutions to provide recommendations and analysis of anticipated outcomes
Monitors disk space and system usage; analyzes rate of growth to available equipment; re-allocates disk space to maximize usage
Evaluates infrastructure and hardware platforms to determine effectiveness and compatibility with established systems to support and further needs, plans and objectives of the University
Remains abreast of technology directions, initiatives and trends within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance and recommendations
Documents system architecture and configuration.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field AND four (4) years experience in server/network administration, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Five (5) years of experience with the following or similar responsibilities:
Demonstrated system administration experience in Window 2008 R2, 2012 R2, and windows 2016 server environments.
Active Directory services
Experience in working with virtualization technologies, with a preference towards Hyper-V.
Experience in administrating the following server products: Active Directory, IIS, Patching and deployment practices and technologies.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS), iSCSI storage, Microsoft Clustering Services (MSCS), and be well-versed in enterprise networking (Subnetting, Vlans, IPv4)
Experience in scripting with PowerShell or VBscript
Demonstrated knowledge with system log and performance monitoring tools such as Splunk, SCCM, and SCOM
Experience with systems analysis and creative problem solving
Experience in providing technical advice, problem solving and debugging assistance.
Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work in a dynamic environment
Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills
Experience in working in a team environment, multitasking, meeting deadlines and prioritize
Evidence of being flexible and able to adapt to change
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
Frequent physical demands may include working in cramped and close surroundings subject to exposure to electrical connections.
Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds.
Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties.
