UAB IT is currently seeking applicants for an Assistant VP/Chief Information Security Officer to establish and maintain an information security management program to ensure that information assets are adequately protected across the enterprise. This position will work closely with executive management to determine acceptable levels of risk for the organization and to ensure that appropriate and effective policies and procedures are in place for the protection and privacy of the enterprise's confidential information resources. The AVP/CISO will be visionary leader with sound knowledge of business management and of information security best practices and technologies. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and fifteen (15) years of related experience required. At least ten (10) of those years must be related to information security policy, standards, and operations. At least Five (5) years of experience within an Academic Health Center preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Certification is required in one or more security-related disciplines.
The successful CISO should have an understanding of the decision-making process and structure of a large, complex educational institution, like UAB, and be able to collaboratively build a community with key stakeholders and business unit leaders across the enterprise to reach consensus and positively increase IT’s impact to the academic, research, medical, and economic development mission of the university. Experience within an academic medical environment is strongly preferred. Additionally, the successful candidate should have experience in an academic medical environment and deep technical skills in one or more of the information security domains supervised while also possessing the leadership, communication, and planning skills that allows him/her to develop strong interpersonal relationships across the university.
