The Dick Smith Library at Tarleton State University is seeking an Emerging Technologies librarian. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Collection Management, this Librarian is responsible for maintaining and managing library software and servers including the integrated library management system and other tools; oversees the library’s Maker Spot, including assisting users, planning and implementing outreach activities, and supports and troubleshoots equipment; In collaboration with the End User Support Specialist, helps organize and coordinate daily activities to maximize effective use of library technologies; provides regular and on-demand training; seeks to make library staff independent and proficient users of technology. Also provides general reference desk coverage as needed.

35% Assists patrons in the Maker Spot with equipment and software, printing and checkouts. Troubleshoots and supports Maker Spot equipment. Plans and implements Maker Spot outreach activities, in coordination with library efforts. Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating work of student assistants assigned to Maker Spot and Systems; maintains schedules and work assignments. Coordinates short/long-range plans for the Maker Spot, in consultation with Assistant Director for Collection Management, and End User Support Specialist.
20% Helps organize and coordinate daily activities required for on-going operation of the library network, applications and computers. Collaborates with the End User Support Specialist to develop and make recommendation and procedures for the library network, and disseminates information concerning the operation, modifications, and enhancements of the system. Serves as a point of contact for network, application, hardware, and software in identification of problems, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. Provides usage statistics for electronic resources and other data as requested. Maintains documentation provided by vendors and created for the library technology department.
10% Responsible for the operation of library services during evening and weekend hours, including circulation: Assists and instructs patrons with use of databases, reference tools, and other library equipment. Maintains knowledge of library equipment and troubleshoots as needed. Makes critical decisions regarding the operation of the library using calm, logical approaches to problems and emergencies and contacting appropriate emergency University/Library personnel as necessary to ensure the security of the facility. Assists other Library departments, as staffing and patron demand requires. Serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments, provides information and collection development services, including informing faculty of new library services and resources. Maintains professional development through membership on university and library committees and professional organizations, attendance at workshops and through community activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Library Science from approved ALA accredited university. Two years of related experience in an academic library setting.
