EDUCAUSE (http://www.educause.edu) invites applications for the position of ChiefInformationOfficer(CIO) to lead the information technology function. We are a highly creative, visionary, nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology (IT).
As a member of the Executive Team, you will work in partnership with the CEO and executives to ensure that strategic goals and initiatives are translated into tactical and operational plans for implementation by Information Technology that will optimize organization performance. This position is based in our Louisville, Colorado office and will lead a team of 10+ IT professionals.
Association Strategic Planning and Leadership
Provide insight to the formation of the association’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.
Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of technological solutions to address business and program challenges.
Provide technological leadership to Executive Team and program directors in matters of strategic decision-making, planning and resource management.
IT Infrastructure/Services Creation, Planning and Implementation
Work with the executive and senior leadership teams to propose and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate our rapid growth objectives.
Work in a consultative fashion with other business units as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness.
Develop and maintain the IT strategic plan to ensure EDUCAUSE’s IT capabilities meet current needs and that system upgrades and other changes are aligned with the evolving needs of the organization.
Place great emphasis on the IT service delivery model, closely monitoring performance and making adjustments as needed to optimize results
Align with external benchmarks to ensure relevance and cost-effectiveness of recommended IT strategies.
Stay on top of changes in the information technology industry and make recommendations to forecast problems and provide solutions for both current and future needs.
Chair the Information Technology Governance Committee (ITGC) ensuring partnership, communication, prioritization, and alignment of IT initiatives/projects to our goals.
IT Department Leadership
Provide leadership to the IT department that supports the company’s culture, mission and values; cultivate a goal-achieving, accountable IT Department.
Ensure the creation and timely and effective implementation of IT tactical and operational plans motivated by strategic goals and initiatives.
Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of foundational strategies impacting IT operations and development.
Provide oversight to the integration, security and integrity of all technology systems.
Facilitate communication between executive leaders, management, staff, providers, and others to ensure a high performing, customer focused IT operation that is cost effective while being responsive to the needs of EDUCAUSE's staff and membership.
Collaborate with other senior leaders and program staff to support an effective partnership between association operations and programs in delivering events, resources, and services to members.
Education and Experience:
At least ten years of dynamically responsible experience in information technology with a minimum of 5 years in a director level or a senior level IT position.
Information technology and higher education or association experience preferred.
A solid grasp of higher education and the higher education technology community is useful.
Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced academic degree is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A track record of running a solution focused organization that delivers effective and efficient services to both internal and external customers.
Experience working and contracting with IT vendors, developing RFP’s, evaluating proposals, and leading diverse, complex IT project initiatives.
Ability to synthesize complex IT solutions and plans and communicate them in writing and verbally to senior leaders, board members, and membership as needed.
Experience with IT strategic, tactical, and operational planning, along with experience in preparing and managing IT operational and capital budgets.
Familiar with supporting a variety of software platforms including ERPs, CRMs, LMSs, and Office productivity tools.
Understanding of a cloud-first philosophy, virtualization, and diverse end-point device strategy.
Knowledge of information security strategies and tools; appreciation for information privacy.
Ability to travel as required.
