The InCommon Federation Service Manager is a senior role responsible for management of InCommon Federation and related federated identity services as they may be developed to meet the needs of InCommon’s participants.
This position is responsible for the development of the strategy, roadmap, and feature definition of the InCommon Federation and related services to ensure it is:
easy to join, use and understand for key stakeholders.
more trustworthy and valuable for key stakeholders over time.
interoperable in the global context.
This full-time staff position is ideally based in Ann Arbor, Michigan or Denver, Colorado and reports to the Internet2 Associate Vice President for Trust and Identity. Other locations will be considered. ?Frequent domestic and occasional international travel is expected. ?Availability outside of normal office hours may be required for critical problem resolution.
Work with cross-functional teams to ensure community needs and related deliverables are identified, met and tested from communications to deployment to support and operations.
Engage the InCommon community on existing and new federation-related needs and requirements. Develop reports about federation planning, roadmaps, and related progress.
Work with Internet2 staff and community-based governance bodies to field, respond to, document, and proactively address complex technical and customer service needs related to the InCommon Federation and its various programs and services.
Provide strong advocacy for the community, within internal federation operations and planning efforts.
Serve as lead translator and communicator to the community about Federation-related plans and topics. Ensure all communications and documentation reflect the right message and vision.
Develop frameworks for promoting community practices and increasing levels of trust across the InCommon Community.
Work with international trust federations on ensuring alignment and integration across federation practices and technologies.
Act as a skilled and diplomatic communicator with all parties on issues related to the federation and its operation.
Participate on a energetic, distributed and diverse team working to make InCommon Federation more mature and valuable to the community.
Engage with software development teams to act as a product owner for InCommon’s federation support software.
Develop sustainable business models to ensure long-term viability of the Federation and related services.
Minimum 10 years professional experience and 5 years in delivering complex enterprise-scale services in some capacity.
Demonstrated ability to translate business goals to technical requirements and communicate about both to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including handling vendor, customer, governance, peer and leadership relationships with a high degree of diplomacy, and communicating freely and appropriately with colleagues.
Demonstrated leadership in achieving results by working? with a team of diverse skillsets and backgrounds to achieve shared goals and undertake change management processes in IT service delivery.
Experience developing sustainable IT services that provide measured value to customers.
Experience with operational skill sets and environments including IT systems security, availability, ticketing systems, disaster recovery and business continuity best practices, issue tracking and resolution, systems software design, DevOps, as well as cloud and on-premise IT infrastructure.
Experience in development of business models for IT services, budget management and reporting.
Familiarity with R&E trust federations and related technologies including SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect or related protocols.
Experience developing and delivering IT services at massive scale (in support of millions to billions of operations per day) in a highly reliable and secure manner.
Experience with use and support of open-source software.
Database, application server, scripting or other related technical skills.
Data warehousing and reporting skills including constructing ad-hoc reports against warehoused data, construction of data transform and load jobs, etc.
