Supervisor of Museum and Cultural Property Security

The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise and manage the activities of security officers who are assigned to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, and provide department support as directed by management. The supervisor will work closely with the Museum's Associate Director for Finance & Operations and the Assistant Director of Operations for Safety and Security, keeping them informed of day-to-day and long-term operational matters involving personnel, general public safety, property protection, and reporting of maintenance for repair. Close coordination with Campus Security Supervisors and the Assistant Director of Operations for Safety and Security is necessary for daily operational and personnel oversight. There is the additional responsibility of working closely with Special Collections and Archives and the Arctic Museum to ensure support of their cultural property security needs.
Normally scheduled hours will fall between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some situations may require work outside the regularly scheduled times and overtime is expected.
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required; Associates Degree, or 2 years of college course work, or one year of experience in a Museum Security environment with progressive responsibilities, preferably in a university or college setting preferred. Knowledge of security equipment, systems, and setups (CCTV, Intrusion Systems,) strongly desired.
The Supervisor must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, professional oral and written communication skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Access); the ability to solve problems and to make decisions in stressful situations; strong leadership qualities; and the ability to be certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED. A certification in the field of cultural property protection is desirable.
The Supervisor must have proven experience and ability to effectively communicate/exercise good judgment in managerial and customer relations roles. A minimum of one year lead or supervisory experience is preferred.
