Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking a Network Engineer to be responsible for the overall design and implementation of the campus network. S/he will also work with the Network Administrator, Network Specialist and other members of the Infrastructure team to provide support of the daily operation of the network and ensure network security. Utica College currently has a heterogeneous network made of Cisco Firewalls and Routers; Extreme/Enterasys Core, Edge, Wireless and Management Software; and an Avaya IP Phone System.

Primary responsibilities include:
Is the primary point of contact in the design, documentation, implementation installation, testing, researching, supporting, and maintenance of all network related equipment and technologies: Manages all aspects of Local Area Networks (LAN): i. All Core Ethernet Switching ii. All Edge Switching b. Manages all Internet Connections: i. All Routers ii. All Firewalls c. Manage the entire network backbone: i. All Fiber Optic Cabling an Connections ii. All Ethernet Cabling and Connections d. Manage all related network software and technologies: i. Wireless ii. VPN iii. Network Access Control (NAC) iv. Monitoring and alerting Management servers and systems v. All other networking related equipment and software e. Assist in maintenance of the Phone Systems f. Assist in maintenance of Cable TV systems g. Make recommendations on Network related purchases h. Assist in procurement process for all related equipment and technologies
Maintain vendor relationships: Manage wiring and installation contractors b. Manage all outside network consultants and vendors c. Manage all networking support contracts
May be required to participate on various ad-hoc committees, and participate in various college wide activities and initiatives.
Assists in setting security standards, processes, procedures, and policies and recommends appropriate changes to policies and procedures to meet new standards.
Collaborate in the planning of major technology initiatives and in the communication of planned and unexpected technology changes to the campus community.
Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
This position is considered essential as defined by the Essential Personnel policy, and is deemed to be critical to the continuation of key operations and services in the event of a Suspension of Campus Activities/Operations.

Candidate should have a B.S. degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field and a minimum of three to five years’ experience working with diverse technologies in support and management of a networked environment; Experience in network security is desired; Length and quality of experience may be considered in lieu of a current degree.
