This is one of Nexford University’s first few hires, essentially forming the founding management team. Nexford University seeks a Chief Academic Officer (CAO) who is passionate about creating a differentiated and innovative approach to help students achieve their education and career goals. He/she has a distinguished academic background and a track record of spearheading innovative learning models with strong results. He/she helps develop the vision and portfolio strategy in alignment with NXU’s mission and goals. The CAO provides leadership and a focus on continuous improvement to achieve student outcomes and meet global workforce needs. He/she assures the academic integrity and quality of NXU’s offerings and hires talented faculty. The CAO will be an important voice for NXU in licensing, accreditation, and compliance applications and review. The CAO will often need to balance between NXU’s highly innovative and differentiated approach and the requirements of licensing & accreditation bodies.
The CAO is responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, relevance of all aspects of NXU’s innovative learning design and academic model, including curriculum and assessment development; faculty recruitment, hiring, and management; academic policy and procedure; and accreditation and licensure. As NXU grows, the CAO will continue to serve as a core member of the founding leadership team, taking on additional roles and responsibilities at multiple levels of the organization. He/she will work closely with other leaders to develop strategy but will also be comfortable with hands-on execution. This role does not involve significant operations management, NXU intends to hire senior Operations managers who will work closely with the CAO. In addition. This role does involve a limited amount of non-academic work such as working on key partnerships with employers and other organizations.
The CAO will:
Represent NXU’s learning design and academic model to external and internal audiences.
Plan a portfolio of degrees and microcredentials based on workforce needs in targeted countries/regions.
Lead curriculum design and build process in partnership with Director of Learning Design.
Develop and oversee student academic policies and compliance.
Establish admissions standards and policies.
Determine best practices for faculty hiring, evaluation, and operations.
Conduct cycle of continuous improvement and program evaluation based on market needs and student outcomes.
Prepare and present licensing and accreditation applications.
Inform key technology platform decisions.
Partner with NXU teams to achieve KPI’s and ambitious growth plans.
Provide academic expertise and training to operations teams and other management team members who may not have sufficient academic experience
Help establish key partnerships with large employers and other organizations in-line with university’s commercial strategy
Required Skills and Qualities
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a multinational startup environment that is quite different than any traditional or online university.
