Systems Design Specialist (AWS Solution Architect)
Penn State Enterprise IT provides IT services in support of the teaching, research, and outreach mission of the University. Data Center Services is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative hands-on solution architect to deliver enterprise technologies and solutions that facilitate faculty and researcher outcomes and support University services at scale. This position will collaborate across the University to seek and develop enterprise-wide cloud-native solutions; architect scalable, highly available, fault tolerant solutions that leverage AWS services; utilize appropriate AWS services to design and deploy applications based on given business requirements; implement Agile and DevOps practices; re-architect complex on premise applications to be cloud optimized; implement enterprise security; and advise and implement AWS best practices. The successful candidate will work alongside faculty, staff, and teams (technical and service); have strong interpersonal communication skills; enthusiastically learn new skills and technologies, handle multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously with a close attention to detail and minimal oversight; solve unique and complex problems; guide and coach a group of highly skilled technical and business professionals in the use of cloud-native technologies; assist in developing on campus trainings. Knowledge of other cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Google) and ITIL are desired. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
