The IT Department at Skidmore College invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as a Desktop Support Technician. This position will respond to incoming help requests from users via the ticket tracking system in a prompt and courteous manner; while providing accurate detailed information of the resolution, including the verification of the fix. Will need to utilize time management skills to prioritize and schedule help requests in order to adhere to deadlines. Knowledge of Linux, Mac and Windows computers and operating systems. Individual will need to build, deploy and maintain computer images for various operating systems. Also, will need to have experience in communication and collaboration tools ranging from email to cloud-based software. Must be a strong team player, while also having the ability to work independently; and collaborate with all IT departments (Media Services, Enterprise Systems, Academic Technologies, Networking and Telecommunications) to create and provide quality computing environments.
Bachelor's degree preferred with at least 2 years' experience supporting and troubleshooting Linux, Mac and Windows software and hardware. Excellent skills in all phases of desktop management with experience in a higher educational setting preferred. Strong communication skills (verbal, written and listening) as this position will interact with students, faculty, and staff over the phone, via email and face-to-face on a daily basis. Ability to express concepts and information in user-friendly language and absorb and retain information quickly and efficiently. Must be able to quickly and independently master new tools and services and provide support and consultation on usage of new technology. Excellent skills in all phases of desktop management. Demonstrated expertise in some of the following: Linux, Mac, Windows OS, Scripting, Mac deployment tools including Deploy Studio, JAMF Casper Suite, Microsoft Office, SCCM, Remote tools.
