The Application Solutions Analyst (ASA) is part of a six person core team that is responsible for all desktop software package development and delivery to all locations, including 4 campuses and three satellite locations. The ASA’s work closely with campus technicians and project coordinators for the delivery of software and hardware solutions. They also provide technician training for new solutions and project implementation. The team supports all Windows and UNIX based servers, numerous virtual servers, virtual desktops, district wide printing, storage area networks and backups. They are the top tier group for solving software and other conflicts. This group touches almost every distributed business or instructional project.
Provides analysis, support, installation, evaluation and systems administration for the college’s shared hosted application platforms. Responsible for and supports the hardware, high-end data center equipment, virtual environments, enterprise storage area networks (SAN) and server applications that run the College’s enterprise business and instructional systems. Performs software packaging, works with group policy, manages and monitors the College’s enterprise and academic applications.
Works with all departments and teams within the information technology support department and with business and academic departments that hosts shared application solutions on centrally provided server and database platforms. This position has significant work contact with technology service managers, programmers, end-user support specialists, and information technology support project coordinators. Occasionally serves as technical liaison with outside vendors. Routinely uses server, database, and application performance monitoring tools and must regularly consult application vendor support knowledge bases, tuning and troubleshooting guides.
Technology Support and Administration: installs, configures, monitors, tunes and maintains Windows, UNIX and other operating systems to provide high-performance, highly-available and recoverable services. Installs, configures, monitors and maintains server hardware platforms, server based applications, and system interfaces that ensure interoperability and data portability. Installs, configures, monitors, tunes and maintains hosted server applications for both business and academic functions.
Technical Analysis and Planning: Conducts analysis and develops technical recommendations for server based solutions to deliver instructional and business services. Reviews and analyzes technology requests to determine technical feasibility, suitability and compatibility. Tests results and verifies the finished products and solutions meet current and future needs. Collaborates with appropriate departments to translate user requirements into design specifications. Participates in development of technical RFPs and system capacity planning.
Script and Software Development: Develops and maintains relevant scripts and programs to automate processes, create efficient and effective solutions, and streamline operations. Develops, tests, and implements software installation packages for automated software installation and deployment of updates. Analyzes and implements strategies for centralized software and patch management using Group Policy Objects and other appropriate methods for software deployment and configuration.
System Assurance and Security: manages and administers the college’s directory services to ensure accurate and appropriate information access controls and permissions. Implements college security policies within the directory servers, Windows servers, and UNIX servers. Maintains and administers Windows and UNIX operating system security and access control to ensure protection of college information against intruder or malicious activity. Analyzes system and security audit logs to address anomalies and take appropriate action. Responds to official internal and external requests for security information.
Technology Service Delivery: provides excellent customer service and quick response to college constituents for technical problems and failures. Functions as specialized advanced technical advisor and point of escalation of complex problem resolution.
Communications: communicates technical solutions and issues to technology and business management. Collaborates with End User Technology Specialists to develop solutions to complex problems or widespread issues beyond the capabilities of end-user support technology specialist.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or closely related discipline and 3 years of relevant full-time experience beyond degree equivalency. Certification in systems and applications to be supported may be considered an equivalent for experience requirements. Experience in UNIX and use of specific programming/operating languages (such as PowerShell, VB Script, and VMware ESX) will be given preference.
