The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, security and integrity of all network related equipment and technologies. The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
Design, deploy, and administer the college network environment consisting of network switches, routers, firewalls, wireless networks, Data Center equipment and other network related hardware.
Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance and provide diagnosis and resolution of network system problems.
Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records that reflect current configurations and environment.
Ensure reliability for all wired and wireless network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, other network appliances and end user devices.
Develop, implement and maintain documented policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Oversee new installations and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Respond to security incidents in a professional and timely manner. Works as part of the incident response team.
Participate in training to stay abreast of relevant network and network security technology.
Participate in staff meetings, technical work sessions, user/technical groups and presentations.
Communicate with the Manager on a regular basis to review and plan projects and support cases, provide technical consultation and summarize completed work.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, computer information systems, information management, or related discipline.
Three years of professional experience in the Information Systems field, including providing enterprise level network support.
A combination of Network experience in providing support for an enterprise network may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree only.
Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
Experience with Cisco IOS.
Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise wireless networks.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Ability to work effectively with other staff members and users as well as to develop and maintain up-to-date procedural and configuration documentation.
Experience with advanced engineering and support services of a campus data network environment consisting of Data Center Cisco switching, static and dynamic routing, NAT/PAT, and BGP configuration.
Proficient with packet capture and network performance analysis.
Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Unity, Asterisk or similar VoIP system.
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy, Domain Controllers and related DHCP and DNS IP provisioning.
Experience with installation and maintenance of Linux based applications running on Linux based operating systems.
Experience with Network Security Incident response and monitoring.
